Tune After Valve Springs?

Hey Guys,

Just picked my car up last night from ford - they fitted the 290kw Inlet valve springs to my turbo to replace the soft standard springs. My car was bought with an APS phase II kit, but with warranty on everything (well so they say).

When I picked it up, it coughed and spluttered a bit, and blew a bit of fuel smoke out for the first few times I gave it boost.

The senior mechanic said I will need to retune it again (I have a unichimp) because the AFRs will be out. Does that sound about right?

Im thinking that if it does require a tune, then that should be part and parcel of their repairs, and not something I should be forking out for... again (they flashed my computer last time I took it in and it threw the unichip out).

I would not have thought you would need a retune for it to run correctly

I know you will not reach the full benifit of them without a retune but that is a different question

Although you would benefit from a retune, as the car will now rev harder, you would not need to get a retune following the upgrading of valve springs so just bullsh1t on Fords part.

Sounds to me that they have reflached it again and the spluterring you talk of is the car running rich as a result of the Phase II injectors delivering too much fuel for the stock tune.

a wandering idle, when the engine has reached operating temprature is also a sign of the car running to rich

I needed retune after the springs install, it is all dependant on what the before tune was like before. If it was on the edge, then yes perhaps you will need it retuned. I would to be safe anyway, at least give it a dyno run to check your afr's for peace of mind.

Look I had springs installed and have a Unichip.It didnt do anything to my tune plus I installed a I/C as well.I ran it on the rollers to check my AFRs and they were still in the 10.5

And for all you anti UNICHIP fans out there

I had goldie do my springs, I didnt get a retune...it ran perfect and felt like it went a bit better...and a new pb to show for it
