Lets clear this up as I'm still too green to know any better.....

Saw a thread where a dudes car was pinging after his edit was tuned to 95 ron and he had put 98 ron premium in his ride. Mine is as stock as a rock and getting a dyno tune on Sat at Redcliff. Am I doing the wrong thing puttn BP 98 ron in my ute and givin it curry. What is the factory tune for these T's

cheers

If the dudes car was tuned to 95, and he put 98 in, it shouldn't ping at all, unless it was bad fuel. If it was the other way around, I'd expect it to ping under load though.

I can't think of any reason why you'd run into probs running 98 in a stock car period. Unless again, it was bad fuel.

I'm pretty sure the Ts require 95RON as a minimum, 98 is fine.

Edit: when getting tuned, use the fuel you plan to drive on. You can go up in RON, but not down when it comes to the RON your car was tuned on.

The factory tune "recommends" 95RON. 98 certainly won't do it any harm.

I can't see how it would ping on 98 but not on 95RON fuel. It just doesn't make sense.

Factory tune is OK with ulp too (91 RON) but performance suffers significantly.

No problem running 98 RON pulp... will run sweetest with it.

The factory tune runs quite rich, and timing advance is reduced if ECU detects pinging.... that's why it can still run on ulp.... but also why performance suffers.

If you are custom tuning for max performance with edit. then you'll need to use the same fuel type all the time.

What about Shell's new 100 RON optimax, I be thinking it make no diff what so ever.

On a standard car I would agree.

It wouldn't make a difference.

Here's the thread I spoke of.

Looks like I f*cked up, his car was tuned to 98 and he was putting in 95...

Yeah, sounds like it was just pinging a bit using whatever fuel he had put in. Easily fixed by the tuner, just gotta back the timing off a bit, or use the proper RON if he wasn't already.

I was advised by the mechanic and staff at the Ford dealership on delivery of my Phantom to always use 98ron.

I have never run less than 98 and my Beasty Boy runs spot on. :pooh:

that's an orsome stock KW figure there Shazzy...doing my first run on Sat as I mentioned, will be stoked if its anywhere near that, I was looking at 180kw at the most.

At what ks was this tested?

Mine will have done 1300k
