Well, what an interesting weekend.

I paid my bucks, and attended the flash tuning workshop, along with representatives of the following workshops:

Dyno- mite Performance Melbourne

Jim Mock Performance Melbourne

Tune House NSW

Uni Group NSW

F.I.S.T. Performance QLD

Tint Master Mackay QLD

Collingsville Performance QLD

Morpowa SA

Bill Towler Mechanical SA

Adelaide Performance Engineers SA

Torque Performance NZ

There were a total of about 16 participates, along with all the Nizpro crew, Martin Donnon, and a couple of others who presented or provided assistance.

I must say, having now seen something of the breadth of what the Advantage Software covers, I can appreciate how much effort goes into getting each tune we get for our cars right – and why there is no way to rush this process if it is to be done properly.

The degree to which there is interrelation between many difference tables within the thousands of values that can be accessed astounded me. To achieve a given result, many of these need to be adjusted to balance with other changes, and if you don't REALLY know your stuff, I can see how it would be easy for someone to get things wrong!

The other thing that I found of incredible value was gaining an appreciation of just how many different ways there are to achieve similar power outputs, but the implications on HOW the power is made on many things such as safety, fuel economy, exhaust temperatures, driveability etc…

The variance in what needs to be done to achieve the BEST result in individual cars also really reinforced the inadequacy of relying on a generic tune, and the merit in getting a custom tune from someone who REALLY knows their stuff.

Needless to say, there was some great information shared by Nizpro and Martin, with some very valuable contributions by the rest of the guys.

I must say I was also very impressed with the calibre of the participants. Many of the guys who attended are very very experienced tuners, and it was great for a novice like me to listen to some of the stories and come to understand how accomplished these guys are. The fact that this calibre of tuner were prepared to spend a weekend and quite a bit of cash to enhance their knowledge, as well as the degree to which they were open in sharing their own experiences was fantastic.

This environment also created some interesting discussion, and possibly laid the foundation for greater sharing of experiences in the future. The networking between the respective tuners also led to discussions of group buys, joint development of products and sharing of R&D costs, and a raft of other things that may yield a great win for us as consumers, in terms of service, pricing of kits, and range and accessibility to upgrade options.

All in all a great event for those involved and for me as something of an interloper!
