Nrma Stuff Up!

hi all

I recently got into a bit of an accident and my car was taken to an assesor in my local area on the north shore. anyway it did not go onto the internet and the guy sent it to a predominantly body work place.

now it was obvious that the car needed some suspension work as well as other components around the area. I find out that they have a mechanic that comes in when he is needed.

anyway the job was done and I noticed a clicking in the front section of the car. took it back and after a day (they ordered more parts) it was back to me.

2 days later I notice that the clicking is still there and in addition reversing out of a drive way I scrathed the underside only to find the left front has come off. now this was also fixed but obviously not good enough.

I am going back to assersors this saturday.

my question is what are my rights at this stage? can I now choose my own place for repair and I also need a courtesy car as it was the biggest hassle last time

What did they replace, ie what was clicking, and the left hand side of what fell off?

NRMA in sydney have a new system where accidents are sent to an assesor and they take photos of the damage, put it on the internet and repairers bid on it and whoever is the cheapest wins the repair.

it has been under much criticsm here and they may get rid of it.

the clicking seemed to come from the front. when I reversed and turned the wheel to the righ it would click and sometimes twice. this was directly related to the suspension work which was done on the front.

thirdly the front bumper on the left side had some damage and was sticking out a bit after the accident.

eeww - sounds like a bidding war for the cheapie repair shops.

If it aint right - get it sorted! If the repair shop doesnt sort it - complain loudly to your insurer.

In NZ - you can generally choose your own repairer. In most cases you need to get 2 or 3 quotes - and the insurance company will come up with a fair repair cost. Then you can choose your own repairer.

I would imagine once you have used a repairer - they will have to complete the job - ie you would not be able to go somewhere else without special permission from your insurer, who will try to get the original repairer to sort it first - as it will cost them less.

that is just the point. I do not trust the orignal repairer to do the job properly. the mechanic has had 2 tries to get it right and it still is not fixed properly.

I have complained to NRMA and that is why it is going back to the assesor. I just want to know if I have any rights now because I want to choose my repairer.

just a quick one to all the people who read this post, I am going to give the repairers another shot at fixing the problems, the main one being the clicking coming from the front.

he seemed pretty honest about it so I will give him another shot.

he will also lend me his car while mine is in repair which is a genuine call

I think you need to understand your policy..read and you will understand.that's why you shop around to find a policy and insurer who cover items which are most important to you. eg rating 1 for life, agreed repairer, replacement vehicle if written off within first 12months etc, etc.. the choice is entirely yours.

Just take it back, they are obliged to repair it & do you honestly think they want to see unhappy customers coming back!

I wouldn't accept any joe blow to work on my lawn mower, let alone any of my vehicles..

I would always want to be in a position to choose who works on my car, be it servicing, tuning or panel work. bugger this internet bidding crap.

If the policy doesn't allow for personal choice (within reasonable industry quotations), shop around.

I hear ya people. I have always been with NRMA so I thought that they would do right by me. anyway they may scrap this internet bidding soon as too many people have complained and people in sydney who are with NRMA would understand what I am talking about.

the repairer is not a dodgy place, it is that they are predominantly a body repairer with a call in mechanic.

I suppose NRMA should have sent the car to an established and reputable mechanical repairer.

anyway like the brunks said they do not want me going back there so I do not think that they have deliberately done a dodgy job.
