Hi this is my first post and im currently in the market for a BA XR6T and have a bit of a dilemma. I'll be chasing 260-270rwkw and am aware of the wear this kind of power places on the gearbox. What is the strongest option, auto or manual and which is cheaper to stengthen? I did a search but couldnt find anything specific.

Thanks for your time

Sorry forgot to mention that. It will be a BA MK1

At the power level your chasing,it would be advisable to strengthen the auto and at that power level you would have to replace the clutch in a manual and the T5 5 speed doesnt like big torque.

So I would say,if you get a mk1 BA,Id get the auto :spoton:

absoluetly, the T5 isnt up to the task in the long run :spoton:

As a driver of a BA MkI with a T5 running just over 250rwkw, I would have to agree, go the auto. If it is a T56 at that power level, it should be fine but as stated, the standard clutch won't cope with more than about 220-230rwkw before it dies.

At the end of the day, it depends upon personal prefs, if you don't feel like a real man without a clutch pedal, get a BA with a T56 however, if you can cope with wearing a blouse, go the auto :spoton:

The clutch can handle around 260rwkw to 270rwkw. Depends on how hard you have the torque come in.

Im at 252rwkw and 550Nm in my T5 and no probs what so ever.

My clutch failed not long after going past 240rwkw. Can't recall the torque figures at that power level.

Have seen quite a few guys destroying their clutches at about 240-250, if you can get it to last past that, well done. The clutch plate itself is not the issue, the lack of lock from the pressure plate is the culprit. However, back to the crappy T5 gearbox.....

If you want a manual - T56 is the way to go which means a mark II, and uprated clutch. For auto either is fine - you may need a cooler and potentially some strengthening down the track.

Happy hunting! :tease:

Cheers,

Ben.
