You're right, whilst it may not quite be $1500, it's still a very significant saving! Unfortunately for me, Canberran dealers seem to think they have a monopoly (or very wealthy) market here and are invariably unwilling to negotiate much on price when it comes to electronics. I have driven to Sydney on numerous occasions to buy things like TVs, decent speakers, etc, and have saved heaps by doing so. Not sure of the model, I just walked in and bought it one day as my older Sony one did not have a component out for the projector.
