Hiya,

Thought some others may be interested in the work done and the costings for my 30,000 service that was done today. I did some checking last night to get an idea of pricing.

So, when I booked the car in, I was told the service was $180. Excellent. Then I was told that there was a recommended tire rotation, balance and alignment and did I want it. Yup, they showed me the wear on the outsides of the fronts. Fair enough.

Then I got a phone call advising that they'd neglected to tell me about the recommended brake and clutch fluid replacement every 2 years. Again, fair enough (sounded plausible to me), so told 'em to do it.

So, the grand total was $311.50

$163.64 for the 30k ($81.69 labour, 11.55 oil filter, 50.40 oil, misc 20.00)

$18.18 for the rotation and balance

$36.36 for the alignment

$65.00 for the brake fluid service (58.93 labour, 6.07 fluid)

And then add 28.32 GST for Johnnie.

So, all in all, I am happy. Don't know if they changed the clutch fluid though, will check that tomorrow??

They also performed a recall PRGC 309 "re routed vacume (sic) hoses as per recall instructions" - don't know what that's about but they told me about it in advance.

Oh, they also replace the gear knob as the leather surround was freely rotating after they'd replaced the leather boot last time under warranty (cracking).

They checked for a squeak around the drive belts that's gradually getting worse that is present for about 5 mins when cold (NFF, lubricated belts)

I guess the moral of the story is that they kept me informed, were helpful and cheery and they have a happy customer who'll go back again.

Hope this helps anyone else out with an up and coming 30,000 service.

Seeya,

Lightning....

Great to be kept informed.

I have a query with the labour charged. If they did the full service for a Turbo the there should have been 54 minutes of labour to tightnen the inlet and exhaust/turbo manifolds.

I thought dealers charge around $65 per hour. According to the BA series service guide, the 30k service should be a charge for 48 min labour for an A class service (page 49) and 54 min labour for the extra that MUST be performed every service according to the book for the Turbo (page 43) .

Some of the totals for individual parts of the service are excessive ie. $58.93 for the brake fluid when Ford allow 24 minutes for this to be done. I think by the total of your labour charged the extra turbo work may have been done but fudged into other areas for labour.

So have a look at you invoice that should mention that additional work for a Turbo vehicle performed. Not all dealers I have spoken to know there is a difference.

The reason I mention this about the additional tightening is that there are threads on a few forums with people saying there manifolds and other connection around the turbo have come loose.

Wait to hear from you,

Colin

P.S. My 30k service is due soon that's also why I'm interested.

Seriously guys, shop around hey. I saved big bucks going to centre ford and taking 7L of oil and a filter in with me! The bill at the end was LESS than the quoted price too... for a 45k service it cost me about 100 bucks and that was full logbook service!

That is a really good price you got their Lightning!

Was this a retail cost?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Absolutely, just a guy off the street :spoton: (I bought it off them, but other than that...)

Hiya. I've checked the invoice / report again, no mention of the extra hours. I confirm that the brake fluid change was $58.93 for labour. "Carry out power brake fluid service. Inspect and adjust front and rear brakes, drain master cylinder and clean. Refill with new fluid and bleed system"

Total Parts was $17.62, total labour was $195.16 and total sundry was $70.40.

I will have a read of the manual and may ask them the question, including their rate.

Cheers,

Lightning....

As I mentioned I was more concerned that the extra tightening had been done during the service. Not the price for labour you were charged.

I have concerns when the local dealers service of my vehicle. Now the same dealer has ownership in all the adjacent towns also.

I was quite annoyed finding out after I bought my T that there was this extra cost for every service. This was one thing I specifically asked the salesman, who asked the workshop manager in front of me who said the services are the same as for the standard Falcons.
