Sunglass Holders

Managed to get hold of a sunglass holder out of a GT, was going to fit it but it doesn’t look like a straight swap. Looks like you need to cut away the roofline, would like some advice please?

Has any one fitted one?

Hey Mick!

I fitted a sunglass holder, but I had to fit a Fairmont roof lining as well, as it comes reinforced around the overhead console section.

The fairmont roof lining also comes with provisions for additional courtesy lights above the visors, a neat touch!

You cound attempt to hack a hole in your factory lining, but it may sag over time because it isnt reinforced like the Fairmont one.

Hope this helps. I have done 2 Fairmont hoodlining conversions, one on my car, and another on Lord Cyric's rig. :spoton:

Someone PM'd me about how I fitted the sunglass roof console to my XR6T. Here's my response. Hope it helps.

Cheers

Hi mate,

I have a practically brand new roof mount sunglasses console I got from a wrecker. Obviosly they dont fit straight in to the XR6T. I was wondering how you managed to get it in or did you use a motor trimmer ? Any tips I dont want to stuff the hoodlining..

Cheers,

Luke

Luke,

I fitted mine myself. The fairmont has a different roof and rooflining to the XR6 and provides a mounting bracket for the sunglass holder to fix to. You don't have that in an XR6. I had to make a custom alumimium bracket and modify the sunglass holder by adding mounting screws under the lights (the lights can be removed). When you clip the lights back in it hides the screws. The bracket screws to the roof bracing (drill two holes in bracing). Need to cut the rooflining accordingly. Also double sided high temp tape was added to the back of the sunglass holder to help hold it up. It's certainly isn't a five minute job, and it's why no dealer will fit it for you. I've had mine in for over a year and I have had no problems with it. Unless your mechanically minded and willing to risk chopping up you roof lining then I wouldn't recommend trying it.

Thanks for the heads up mick, you saved me hacking away and stuffing the roof lining. I will have a chat to the ford guys about the Fairmont roof lining.

Cheers

Maybe you should just install the sunglasses on your face?
