If you can, get it optioned from the factory. FoMoCo use aluminium strips at the front and the rear of the tub that do a much better job of securing the cover to the tub. These strips are availalbe separately at spare parts, but it is over $800.... unfortunately the method that FoMoCo used when attaching a hardcover after delivery aren't nearly as neat as factory fitted jobbies, which is a real shame.

I wish they would all use the factory method.

Umm, there are two hinges and two latches, that's it, where's this $800 part go? And FOrd don't fit them at the factory, they are all done in PD. When I bought mine, I asked every dealer if they could build the car with the lugs removed at the factory, and they all said no, they tried that once and it was too costly, so they are all fitted in Pre Delivery.

Ford do fit them from factory! IT IS A FACTORY OPTION.

The way to tell is: If it has just the two hinges at the front, it is a PD fit.

If it has a 1 piece aluminium plate at the front of the tub, it is a FACTORY FIT.

And also, if you request it, Ford CAN put the lugs in. We have a Rapid XR6T in at work at the moment if you require proof.

You obviously didn't ask the right dealer.

It may indeed cost more to get it fitted at the factory, I dont know, but they do a much better job than the PD team ever will.

And would I be right to assume if you tick the option as a factory fit, the money goes direct to FoMoCo? If you get a dealer fit the money goes to the dealer?

If this is a correct assumption, of course they are going to tell you that they need to fit it. I believe this is why my towpack swapped from a Factory fit to a Dealer Fit.

My ute has a genuine hardcover with a Ford badge just behind the rear window and rear wing.Where the gas struts connect to the cover there are two small upward bulges where the struts push up as its being closed.A little obvious in black but perhaps not so obvious in a lighter colour?Perhaps a bit more strength around that area would help.Anyone know how much the hardcovers weigh?Thinking about alloy bar and tarp to replace it.Can't see a lot through the rear view mirror with the wing either,but it makes a good handle

I finally picked up the hardcover on Saturday and spent yesterday installing it. Its quite easy to do, only took a couple of hours (I wanted to take my time)...It sits very nicely

Ive noticed the same thing where the struts fix to the lid underneath, that's about the only major fault. Mines blueprint and you can still notice it fairly easy especially if its clean

OK - I'm sure that makes no difference. I have the lugs removed on mine, so I have my own proof. But Ford refused to remove mine at the factory, they swore black and blue they never have before and never will. It is PD's job, I'm willing bet yours was as well. Just because they told you it wasn't doesn't mean that what they did.
