Mkii Starting Problems - Fixed In The Next Release

G'day,

has anyone had any problems at startup? I have just had my 3000 service and had told the dealer about some starting problems :-

puff of smoke - quite a thick cloud - when starting, especially when cold

running on less than 6 cyls on occasion - only briefly, but didn't feel good...

no starting at all sometimes as the shift lever didn't think it was in 'P' - had to move it out & then back again before the ignition would fire

When I went to pick the car up the dealer said these were all known problems and the factory had advised an edit was coming, but not yet available

I also have the noisy diff, but on the test drive it had disappeared (is back now though...)

Are these really known problems? Car is a MkII Turbo auto, I haven't seen anything in here that suggests it is common enough for Ford to already have an edit available?

Cheers

guys read carefully, If you start your car with fuel injection dont giver it gas while turning over .Just turn the ignition and it should start .A common thing with fuel injected cars is if you interrupt them while your starting them Ie turn the ignition but it doesnt kick in and then you try again it acts like its been flooded. if it`s turning over but wont catch then push the accerlerator to the floor while turning over.It will start trust me. It happend to me when I first go my BA and since doing it htis way never happend again .

Your dealer is full of sh*t, it is a charecteristic of the car.It doesn`t like been given juice till the motor has fired up.

Thanks - I thought it was a bit suspect, I'll make a mental note to see what my foot is doing when I am turning the key in future.... I think my shift lever problem is separate altogether though, it happened again to me this morning. Apparently there is no adjustment for it, maybe I just have to puash a bit harder when I move it 'P'!

Cheers

my mkI xr6 NA ute does the run on 4 cyl start-up thing once ina blue moon.. shakes and shudders and carries on so I just turn it off, start her up again and its fine.. got me stuffed.

basically I think the CPU's in these cars are pieces of sh*t.. misfiring, overboost on T's,TC turning off,the list goes on.. all CPU related.

Mines a gem, manual MkI - its probably isolated. Or my car is a good one but isolated. LOL! Faultless run so far, not even any diff clunk, T5 shifts properly, never stalls, never overboosts, nothing malfunction, no leaks, no knocks, creaks or noises. And I flog the pants of of her!! Built Ford Tough.

Good to hear! I should have mentioned that none of this has spolit my fun - it is still a great car. It's very hard not to just keep on going once you hit the gas.... normally met with 'awesome, Dad!' by my 4 year old.

Lend it to me for 2 hours and I'll see if I can fix that...

PS, where did you get your weight figure from, and what does it include? (ie people in the car, fuel etc etc)
