If you pressed it harder and then released it it went all the way down..Now in the BA "T" it does not seem to be a 2 stage button. If you press it lightly for more then a second it will go all the way down.So my question is.. Is the Fairmont switch set any different.??Also I noticed (when shoping for the "T" in Oct - Dec 2002) that the XR6 N/A with-out rear power windows did not have the "Auto down" fnuction at all.Anyone able to shed any light on this minor but slightly annoying question? :( If there is any after market system out there?? I would like to "Auto UP" the window as well... Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1593-power-windows-auto-down/ Share on other sites

The lack of control in the switch is just a cost cutting exercise to make the switch blocks cheaper l'm sure. Probably contolled by the body compuetr which makes you wonder why they cant do the same thing in reverse for raising the bloody thing. I would like to "Auto UP" the window as well... For one of my previouse cars I designed and built a simple control circuit that allowed a non-auto window to be converted to an automatic window. What it did was:If you pressed button for < 1.5 seconds it would just go up or down until you released. If held for longer the circuit would take over and automatically either fully raise or lower the window. If the window is in "automatic" mode and you press the button in the opposite direction then it would stop where it was up to.Also if the windows was obstructed the motor would be stopped (but not revered like my current BMW does). The installation was dead simple too. THe control box only had 6 wires. One for +12v, one for groung, 2 for the input and 2 for the output.Simple connect the +12v and ground wires then cut the two wires going to the windows motor and attach the output to the ends connected to the motor and the output to the other two and that it.The only compromise with the design was that it works in conjunction with standard switches so you could not control manual vs automatically by the amoubnt of pressure put on the switch. The only was to do that would be to replace the switches.I built the whole thing and mouted it into a small black plactic auto case from Jaycar and it was only aboput the size of a pack of cigaretts. I didn't think I was puching that hard.. Darn it! The price you pay for a smart car. It makes we wonder what the difference is then between the XT / Xr6 N/A (with no rear power windows) and the rest of the range. There must be a change in the computer. Given that when you option the rear windows in a XR6 N/A you do get the auto down.. What the.......! :o [Harasn..... Any idaes???Cam, Thanks for the update. Do you have a curcuit diagram.. I am not sure how the computer would cope with the change as it must detect that the window is all the way down etc... Hmmmm :o Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1593-power-windows-auto-down/#findComment-16715 Share on other sites

When I cut the original wiring I attached another set of 2 way connectors to the cut wires.THis allows the control circuit to be unplugged and returned to factory by simply connecting the cut wires back together using the male/female connectors.... which I did when I sold the car. Cam Member 397 Member For: 22y 3m 9d Location: Brisbane Posted 10/04/03 11:21 PM Share Posted 10/04/03 11:21 PM There are soooo many cars that do have auto up (all Hondas for example) so I wonder why some manufactures exclude it and others dont??Newer BMWs have pressure switch built into the rubber seal thet runs around each window. It anything impacts on the rubber seal while the windows is goingf up the windows automatically returns to bottom.
