In Tasmania CBD areas such as Launceston, heavy vehicles such as prime movers and trailers are forbidden from entering those areas.

Could you imagine Parramatta Rd with NO semi trailers? I think it might be nice.

Cost has to be taken into account...the cost of transporting goods from the depot by prime mover then loaded into a number of smaller light rigids would increase prices though I would argue that the smoother flow of traffic would be a saving economically and environmentally for far more people.

What about rail......whatever happened to the goods trains that used to be always around. Far more sensible way of moving good from one place to another.

Back to reality though, the whole push by Nth Sydney Council is abhorrent. Local Councils maybe grass roots politics however one must wonder if the Councillors just eat roots and leaves.

Good recall Plonkers... It was superb in Launceston when you only had to contend with light traffic. The thing was, there really was only one reason that you'd be driving a truck through Lonnie, and that's to get to Bell Bay/George Town, and to do that you just keep going up Bathurst St, negating any need to go near the CBD. (Hobart <-> Devonport traffic no longer goes through Launceston because of the Bass Highway interchange up the hill from the Southern Outlet, or through Perth along Illawarra Rd)

Until they build the M4 East tunnel (it'll never happen; sometimes I hate residents!) then you'll never see them ban trucks from the Ratta Road. It's all about purpose-built roads in large cities like Sydney; the sooner the better.
