F6 Review

F6 ReviewI was reading a review of the F6 in the motoring section of the SMH and they dogged it out saying its very problematic and performance is inconsistent. What they did say was the XR6T is the best BA "Less power and pose value but a much more refined, coherent package and better value. 240kW turbo six goes smoothly and strongly with the four speed automatic. Magazine tests show this is quicker than the new F6." Quoted.

Also quoted:

"The 240kW XR6 Falcon turbo, especially with the four-speed automatic, is the best drive in the BA range, with refinement, performance and poise that really shine on a flowing country road. The F6 feels considerably less cohesive and convincing, as though the unique big six turbo concept has perhaps been pushed too far in the pursuit of mine's bigger than yours (ie Holden's) performance numbers." Im shocked to hear this as my impressions of the F6 was much different. I am now truly proud to drive a XR6T auto now. Hopefully FPV iron out the faults with the upcoming F6 Ute due in a couple of months.

the f6 has copped a bit hasn't it.

it also makes me feel better about my xr6t as well.

maybe the next installment of the turbo will be a whole lot better.

Ford got it pretty right with the XR6T really. Yes there are members of this site with problems and it could have been quicker blah blah, but the car re-introduced a segment, still gets great reviews, are still selling well and we are all on an XR6T enthusiast website. I don't know though that I count a bumper sitting low at one end as a problem... :w00t2:

Improving the XR6T with the F6 was a tough job for a car company existing to make money. Balancing cost, sales of other FPV models, political/media awareness on power levels, future models, timing, brand profile etc is a complicated mix. Most negative comments on here (noting the clutch issue) seem to relate to it's performance not matching the hype - but it seems to perform pretty much like 30 kW/100 nm more should.

I think that the earlier "T's" were quicker and more powerful than the latter ones. I think Ford saw this as a slight problem and with all the reflashes tried to slow the "T" down. They would have be doing this as the original "T" was too good. By this I mean that it had more power and performance than they thought in the real world. They didn't like the "T" being quicker than the XR8 and Gt's. I reckon it would be a fair bet that a brand new "T" off the showroom floor would be slower than the XR8, GT and Typhoon. I remember when we had a dyno day in early 2003 at dynomotive, most cars were 185-200rwkw's. Now most stock "T's seem to be 175-190rwkw's. This could be dyno related but I doubt it.

There you have an interesting "conspiracy theory".

Wouldnt surprise me. That theory sounds perfectly logical. Very pathetic of Ford to do that. Clipping the wings of its best product is something only a marketing executive could do.

Interesting theory Geea.

Theproblem I see is that a 30k power increase was not enough I have heard all of the theorys about torque curves etc.

A round 300 KW figure seems to be what drivers are after lately so if one is to spend the money on the F6 you have to have more power.

I guess it still had to be slower than the GT and the 8 but that's a load of :glad: really.

Hahhahaha - that's funny. My 04 ute is noteably heavier than any sedan int he Turbo line up, and it is stock AND it out accelarates Gooses Sedan which, might I add is a Nov 02, so its the very first.

So more weight, less power, but faster... I don't think so!

Maybe when the 6 speed auto joins the range later in the year, FPV will secretly revise the F6 or something.
