Guest TIC-302 Guests Posted 28/03/03 05:10 AM Share Posted 28/03/03 05:10 AM We just had my friends dads 300kw GTS dyno'dthe best figure he got was 222kw@wheels which is 300kw at the engine.a XR-6 Turbo pushes out approx 190KW@wheels(correct me if I am wrong)which is 240 at the engine.the question is,,,is the XR-6T a 240kw engine or more like a 260/270KW engine? Guest blown EF 6 Guests Posted 28/03/03 05:28 AM Share Posted 28/03/03 05:28 AM What the !!!! you answered your own question !"a XR-6 Turbo pushes out approx 190KW@wheels(correct me if I am wrong) which is 240 at the engine."There is between 20%-30% loss in drive train, coming from the manual/auto box and diff. To convert from rwkw to flykw divide the rwkw by 0.8-0.7.ie 190rwkw divide 0.8 for manual = 237.5flykw. Yeah I know some of you guys got more than 190rwkw. Freaks of nature ! It works pretty well when talking small numbers (KW's) but not when the numbers get larger.e.g. you have a XR6T with 240 engine KW which equates to say 190KW at the wheels. The drivetrain soaks up say 50KW in this case (approx 21%).You then go the chip, exhaust, airbox, intercooler, boost etc route and get say 300KW at the wheels which at a similar 21% loss equates to approx 380 engine KW. All of a sudden the exactly the same drivetrain has soaked up an additional 30KW?????.Food for thought. My XR6T (Auto) is 186rwkW…. figure that? So if the drivetrain took about 70kW in the old XR8, and I said the XR6T used up 70kw also, then the XR6T has around 255kW... the plot thickens  Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1438-300kw-gts/#findComment-15248 Share on other sites
Guest cul08r Guests Posted 31/03/03 06:07 AM Share Posted 31/03/03 06:07 AM Having seen may dyno graphs from various vehicles in the past, you have to ACCEPT the following rule - there is no reliable rule to calculating engine kw from kw atw. There are too many VARIABLES, like tyre design and pressure, oil thickness and age, ambient temperature, drive train resistence, vehicle age etc...The only true way of knowing engine kw is to pull the engine out and put it on the bench, and the only real usefulness of dynoing your car is to measure improvements back to back, same day if possible. At the back of last months issue the had both at just over 200rkw's @ the rear wheels so try figure that out Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1438-300kw-gts/#findComment-17033 Share on other sites
