AND(not finished yet!)Here in SA the Govt allows B double semi's into the metro area and road trains within 100km of Adelaide. These things are as we know, speed limited to 100kph national limit and the open road limit in SA is 110kph.

With 3 or 4 trailers on they can be up to 55-60 metres long.

Whether the SA govt expects me to pass these things at 110kph is academic because I'm cranking 160kph by the time I've passed and started to back off.(I suppose I could be booked for speeding while passing as efficiently and quickly as possible :nono::gooff: ).If the 130 kph crowd want to pass a road train at 130 kph with nothing in reserve, bloody good luck to them.

They'll need it! :kissmy:

While I,m still on my soapbox(yeah rant rant)There are people out there with drivers licenses who barely operate a can opener, have the IQ of a retarded wombat, can't see their own hands in front of their face or are total psycopaths.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I was only having this same “rather heated” argument at work the other day – what do you have to do before you can drive a piece of heavy mining equipment or items such as a forklift? There is a huge amount of bullsh*t that you have to wade through and these things cannot even normally be driven on public roads and are usually operated in closed and controlled environments.

A motor vehicle is equally capable, if not more so, of causing damage to property and person – but any peanut can walk in, complete a multiple guess test (with no limits on the number of times you can attempt), reverse park a car and you’re set for life. Very scary indeed.

Every time I venture out into the big nasty world I see nothing but incompetence on the roads. I know I would be far from the best driver but some of the stupid, careless and inconsiderate things that you endure on the road each day are far from humorous – and what do we always get told – speed is the cause of our problems. So far I have been involved in two accidents, neither were my fault, and both happened in built up areas while I was doing under the posted limit (and so were the other parties). ). On the other hand I regularly drive long distances, usually in the middle of the night, and rarely would I be travelling at the posted speed limit and I have never had a problem.

I can appreciate that this is far from an accurate sample of data to base national legislation and policies on, but it just doesn’t make sense no matter how you look at it.

The :soapbox2: is all yours again Mr X.

Trent.

Try passing a semi which is doing 90km/hr when your semi is limited to 100km/hr..

Takes a :smilielol: long time and road courtesy from both drivers...

Yes a very delicate operation Eddy,it doesn't take much movement of the steering wheel to send that second or third trailer over the white line while someones overtaking.Used to go with my uncle to Perth in B doubles FordLTL and White Road Boss road train and the mirrors on passing trucks used to miss by millimetres.
