Well wouldnt you know it.....just a few weeks after snapping the drive shaft, Ive got it booked in for some more work.

I noticed sqeaking over the last few weeks (actually since the drive shaft job) but tried to ignore it. I thought maybe a bolt near the diff wasnt as tight as it should be. So it got a little worse and I dropped past my dealer. Whacked it up on the hoist and we popped underneath to have a poke.

The guy tightened the swaybar which proved to be not as tight as it should. But it didnt explain the noise. So we looked around a bit more and suddenly he says he knows what it is, and points to a black rubber bush-type thing.

Im not sure what its called, but its a central part of the rear suspension system. Located in a big suspension component (arm) right behind the diff. In fact I think the bolt in the middle of the failed rubber part actually attaches to the back of the diff.

The guy says its the first time he has seen one of them fail (Ive been hearing "that's the first time we have seen that before" quite a bit lately! Tyre consumption, drive shaft snap, and now this thing....!).

So its booked in, but the most annoying thing is apparently a large amount of the rear end suspension (Maybe just about it all!) has to come out to get this thing out and replaced. It seems to be a very central part of the whole setup.

Uh oh, I have Ford chasing a squeek in mine. My squeek sounds kinda rubbery, but seems to be more on the driver's side. My problem is the squeek likes to run away and hide when a Ford guy gets near it

Mickq - that's the first time I have read a problem of that nature on this site, so maybe this time it actually is a first one for the ford guys too.

It turns out that aside from the bush, which was obviously not in the best of states, they had to replace the rear cross member.

After replacing the bush, they put the car back toegether again and it still made squeaks, so out came the rear end for the second time, and in went a new cross member!

hate to think the cost of that work if it wasnt under warrantee!
