Left Stranded

Not sure if anyone has encountered this before, but was on my way home yesterday arvo, when stopped at a set of lights I decided to move into left lane & go straight ahead.

Turned the wheel and slowly turned left....and heard and felt clanking/banging from rear drive wheels.

Thought someone might have tried to take wheels off, but nope, all tight.

Tried to continue forward with massive banging.

Tyre dealer across from this says looks like broken axel or diff :nono::thumbsup:

Had to get it flatbed towed to a holding yard and am about to check with dealer on matter.

Anyone else had diff/axel go snap for no apparent reason??

I cant see that any minor wheelspin that afternoon in the wet would have done any major damage like this...

Bloo loo Glenn, blew up his diff, but it wasnt raining

You would be able to see a broken axle and as it has a LSD, you would still have drive from one wheel with a broken axle. Sounds rather untidy though. Let us know how you go with your warranty claim.

And did FordAssist do the towing for you?

That's not good news Bara, let us know whats going on!

Well after venting some steam this morning, turns out that the dealer has already ordered a new diff for me, and same should be here and installed by Fri arvo. :ermm:

Big  to Sunshine Ford.

The Ford assist was outsourced to RACQ, and they were the ones who came with the flatbed to take the ute back to their depot.

A friend of mine reckons it is the Diff, due to it being an LSD, and the fact that some irresponcible owners don;t know that spinning one wheel while turning a corner will actually harm the diff.

It is of course much better to have both wheels spinning, as the loss of traction negates the damage that the former could do.

I think there's something in that for all of us

But with the LSD, spinning the wheels around the corner will grab the other wheel, making both wheels spin and the back going weeeeeeeeeee.

I had my diff do the same thing. It went BANG on a take off, then turning right it was like I had a locked diff. Just chattering away. Turning left it was going CLANG and you could feel the car jerking around.

I actually had it happen once more, but overnight it fixed itself so the dealer couldn't find anything wrong. Took it in the 2nd time and they wouldn't let me drive it home, and gave me a new diff :)

There's nothing better when an LSD centre locks up and you got 450nm to pump thought it! Specially in a ute! :smilielol:
