Its kinda a waste of time if you ask me as it just ruins the whole car having 2 head units, unless you get something with a pop out screen that kinda offers a little more. Ford should make Premium sound an option on the ute and stop pissing us Ute drivers around. Neways I would be down at Northfield and ripping it up them on Monday morning. oh that's right, I forgot premium sound wasnt available on the ute. I also think that ford should redesign the look of the colour ICC and make it do some more interesting things, some animation perhaps.Dazza. The car audio place that installed my incar DVD did it for the first time ever in my particular car. They also did a pretty good job aswell. I asked the bloke who installed it whether he had ever worked on a BA falcon before and he said that they only did a subwoofer etc install in one BA ute a few weeks before hand. When he did the ute he said that it took him way more time that it should've, but being a sort of new car he had to make the time, to make sure everything was right. Then when he got to my car, everything was reletively simple for him, although he said that he did phone blaupunkt more than a few times to make sure about a few things.Obviously, the car installers that screwed up in regards to your install don't have a clue or anyone to call for help or maybe too stupid to call someone who may know more. A good installer will always know someone they can call about certain things. A bad installer probably doesn't have anyone to call or they just don't give a stuff.I hope your problem get's solved quicksmart. Remember that the installers are at fault with this (I know that you know this, but sometimes these things have to be enthesised), because ICC screens don't just die for no reason. Oh and the burning plasticy smell, I know about these. The XF I drove years ago had some burning wire problems when I did an install once. Made me remember to unhook the car battery when working with this stuff. Something my brother didn't remember when he killed a deck I had in the pulsar SSS.. Pure Ametuers... d'oh Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12569-urgent-help-needed/page/2/#findComment-159325 Share on other sites
YOOT Member 1,201 Member For: 21y 10m 23d Location: Birkdale Posted 28/08/04 10:54 PM Author Share Posted 28/08/04 10:54 PM Thanks for all your support, all is not lost. I had a bit of a play with it last night before I had to duck out. As far as I can tell there is something crossed between the ICC and the new Head Unit. My guess is that the bloke who wired the head unit up has used the ICC's existing wiring and piggybacked the new headunit onto it. Thus drawing too much current and causing the 15amp fuse to blow.As for the wierd electrical noises in the front speakers... well that's something they will find out about when they start to fix the power to the ICC. As for the smell, I will go out this morning and have a good look. It may just be the smell of souldering for all I know. The drivers window is probably just something like a speaker cable or crossover that's in the way.Still, all these things combined make for one monumental fukcup. Thanks to those who have PM'd me with offers to help. Once I have Northfield sort out their stuffups and am satisfied the system works, I will have it independantly checked by someone on this forum who knows what they are doing. My head unit is an MP3 player and has a parametric equaliser and independant subwoofer control, crossover frew control, Q width etc. Makes for a much better sounding system. To think I was going to do this myself and I bet none of this would have happened. Either way its Northfields mistake so its Northfield expense. They have had Ford inhouse with their WDS computer trying to reprogramme the entire car, they have both my keys and so far no luck.Ford have basically said that the ICC is dead and will need to be replaced which Northfield is paying for.The front window was fixed, it was just the cross-over sticking out too far.And ofcourse they were rather embarrissed when they found out the drill bit was left under the bonnet. They are being very helpful and have called me numerous times during the day to keep me up todate. I am happy so far with their after sales service. Its a real shame to have this happen, its a big lesson for them and myself. So hopefully tomorrow my car will be back to full working order with 800watt stereo!
