Replacement fuel pump

Featured Replies

Can some please explain why the current fuel pump upgrades are done by having another pump in series with the original in tank one.

I can't understand how you can increase the capacity of a positive displacement pump, without replacing it. Increase the output pressure, sure, but I thought this wasn't the "correct" way of increasing the injector flow. Why isn't the factory in tank pump replaced - a few extra bucks but a much better solution?

You've probably hit the answer right there - $$$$

Brian (bcl) has replaced the stock pump (thread is here ), but the majority probably go for the secondary pump as it's cheaper and less work.

Go get yourself a Walbro GSS-341, retail from $279.oo. Rated at 255 Litres per Hour & 550 horsepower. Fits into your standard fuel basket

I think you'll find that to be incorrect, you can have the pump out of the car in a couple of minutes & re-fit the new one in a couple more.

Thanks Scotty, that's the info I was after. So why do APS run the secondary pump?

An STi mate says they're used a fair bit in their camp. He's got a contact which supplies at $190 plus del. Obviously a bit of fat built into the retail pricing. I'm considering an APS II kit but just don't like the extra pump.

That's one I'm not to sure of. But they're not the only ones doing that, to me it just complicates things.

People,

Just revisiting this one again.

Is the Walbro pump still the only one able to be fitted into the tank? I'm just a bit reserved about the failure history thrown around regarding these pumps. Having said that has anyone had first hand experience of a failure?

The Bosch 044 is an external, so not an option. Anything else available as an in tank replacement???
