August 3, 200422 yr #21 Hi Ive got the DB 4000 sloted and drilled with Formula Ferodo pads and so far they are great, I give the car a real hard time and so far no cracks and no shudder. They definalty have more bite when applied, only problem with the pads is the large amout of brake dust.Cost was from memory $245 each rotor and pads were $170.Frank I noticed that the 4000's have a different look in the centre (I dont know the proper lingo) to the longlife slotted and golds. Do they have to be installed a drifferent way? Does the hub need to be modded or do they go straight on like the Golds do?

August 3, 200422 yr #23 Author Hey,Yeh I spoke to a mate of mine yesterday who works at a performance and brake shop here in Brizy and he said that the 4000's are really good but wouldn't really need to go for them as the standard slotted rotors with the kangaroo paw venting would be fine and also a bit cheaper. He also did say to stay away from the cross drilled because of cracking.Another thing he said was to leave the standard pads in for general driving as any of the performance pads (when cold) are very aggresive on rotors and will wear them out quite quickly. He also recommends the QFM pad over the Bendix (didn't rate them) and the Ferodo (very good but too expensive) which I thought was interesting. Will let you all know when he gets back to me with some prices.Mick.
August 4, 200422 yr #24 Standard pads are 90% of the problem! They seem to leave residue on the discs causing them to feel "warped", it's not the heat of the discs it's the crap Ford OEM pads. I changed to DBA slotted rotors and left the standard Ford pads in and after a while the discs were shuddering again. Trumpy changed his pads the same time as the rotors and didn't have a problem. Serves me right for being a tight I guess. I have now changed to QFM pads and the shuddering is barely noticeable. Bonus is too that they aren't as dusty as standard pads.
August 4, 200422 yr #25 Author Do you think it might be a bad idea leaving the standard pads in?But I don't have any brake shudder ...................yet! 13500k'sI was just upgrading for some future track days not to combat brake shudder, Does everyone think it is the pads more so than the rotors?
August 4, 200422 yr #26 Mine didnt shudder till 15k, I wouldnt leave the standard pads in if you go to better rotors, they cant handle the heat anyways and will probably glaze your new rotors
August 4, 200422 yr #27 Yep, agreed. Junk the stock pads and get some decent ones to go with the nice new rotors.Yes you will get a little more wear, but that's the price you pay. I did over 30,000km on my set up, there was noticeable wear, but still heaps left in them (at least the same again in my opinion). Cant complain about 60K km with that increase in braking performance.
August 4, 200422 yr #28 Does everyone think it is the pads more so than the rotors? All I know is the stockers suck major so I am turfing the lot and putting after market stuff in, had my brakes skimmed twice and still have shudder. I think I can live with losing my brake warranty when I have a car that's comfortable to drive again.
August 26, 200422 yr #29 Author Ok, I have ordered the new brakes:DBA 4000's, QFM 74 pads (I think) and some castrol race brake fluid for $685 through Race Brakes Underwood (AKA - don't burn me for this as a mate of mine works there but The Brock Shop). I think it is quite a competitive price and the mate of mine is going to fit them for me in exchange for doing the plans for an extension at his place. Not a bad trade or price I think.Should be all good to go for future trake day's.
August 26, 200422 yr #30 So how does this proposed setup compare with the 'performance' brakes setup. I have the 'performance' (non brembo) brakes on MissT and attended a 'track day' at Mallala. These things hauled her down from 140-160 Km at the end of the back straight time and again (20 laps +) with no problems at all. No shudder - no nuthing - but lots of dust. The only hastle was a VY clubsport that would not get out of the way {snigger} although I did get past under heavy braking at the same corner (turn 5 I think).I have a ridge developing (33K) on the fronts and the pads are about 3/4 worn. I'd be interested in how the DBA 4000's, QFM 74 pads upgrade would compare.else did I just get lucky with my brakes???
