Shell Optimax . Though I might run a tankful of Mobil Synergy to compare.

Definately no BP Ultimate , the T does not like it and any 95 ron fuel is to be avoided unless desparate, and then only with octane booster due to mods.

Must admitt, I 2 reckon optimax is a little on the nose after being burnt. However the power gained from optimax is not what I call breath-taking, considering the huge markup in price they ask for it.

Power from my T running on vortex is fantastic right throughout the rev range. However, the T running on optimax seems to be slugish under 2,500rpm.

Correct me if im wrong but the "factory" blue oval T's computer is tunned to understand two types of fuel. Standard unleaded (91/92 ron) or premium unleaded (95+ ron.)

In theory there should be any difference in the way a factory T's would mix/burn optimax, ulimate, vortex, anything of 95+ ron?

Sorry about that, I was trying to download something, Quartermile runs on Gtech Comp. I am not sure how, stuffed up.

PLease elaborate on the Caltex fuel, why not use it? pls tell me, coz I do, I hate how BP annd shell mark up fuel so bloody much, and blame it on the towel heads, but what have they got to do with Friday through to Sunday, funny that oil companies think we are stupid enough to fall for that.

I cant think why you shouldnt use Caltex Vortex (96ron).

The only justified reason I can think of that would compell one to pay for the over-priced optimax/ultimate is when your cars engine is tunned for it. Ford stipulates pulp 95ron as the recommended fuel in a T. Unless the engine "knows" the difference between 95ron and 98ron, your pi**ing money out the exhaust pipe.

As far as I know a standard factory T knows the difference between 91 and 95. FordTECH might be able to shed some light on whether the standard factory T knows the difference between 95/96/97/98 ron.

Yeah the fuel companies are always ready to quickly to push up the price blamming anything from moon alignments to shareholder profits... the funny thing thou is that the oz government benefits just as much when they do. And when the current government aka Costello states publicily to the nation "People had better get used to paying over a $1 a litre"; you know their in colusion!

Its good to see a government that sympathises with its citizens... NOT! :spoton:

Petrol Consumption?

Hitting around 20L to 22L with mostly highway driving. I dont have a heavy foot, unless the odd "done up fully sik car" comes up to me ;)

I fill up using Optimax, BP Ultimate and the sometimes Synergy 8000.

Difference?

Optimax gives my car a higher consumption but slightly more power.

BP Ultimate gave me efficient consumption with similar power (16.9L p/100)

Synergy 8000 makes my car idle like sh*t and barely has any power (maybe because its 97.2 not 98 as they "claim it is").

Vortex Gold I put only when I'm absolutely broke, Gives me high consumption with no power.

How do I know this? DYNO NIGHT's On Monday's tell me all. I do lots and lots of tests.

Hopefully the new software update will fix my consumption.

Maniac - Any engine mods?

On a recent 1,500k round trip with mostly highway driving (100/110ish or so... :w00t2: ) I averaged around 10.5 on vortex. On the return trip following the same route I averaged 10.8 running on optimax.

As I said in an earlier post, a mate of mine worked at Shell in Geelong. I went through high school with this bloke and while I was messing around at Qantas wasting my work experience week fixing 767 engines just 'cos its fun he was at Shell actually learning something.

When he was at uni completeing his physics/engineering dual degree he spent another 3 months working at Shell. Some of the stories he told me about about the different amounts of effort that go into refining petrol got me intrigued. I began to actually keep a spreadsheet on my old computer (which literally self combusted and I don't have the info anymore... :w00t2: ) of fuel consumption on my EFII GLi and then my EL Fairmont Ghia.

Point of my waffling is, my basic research is that my EFII GLi and the EL got better economy and performance out of the 98 RON fuel than the 91 RON. Again I apologise for not having the data anymore, but neither of those engines was tuned for anything other than 91 RON. They are both fairly "stupid" engines in this regard, but still always managed markedly better economy and perfomance (I actaully remember the EF used to work out to exactly the same cents/kilometre ratio on 91 & 98 RON, but the 98 "went" better. It was about $4-5 more a tank to fill, but always got about 50-60kms more from the tank. This consistantly worked out to the second decimal place).

The T engine is a fair bit more intelligent than the old EF/EL engines were, so I really believe from the findings of my amatuer research that the 98 RON fuel is worth every cent, both in econemy and performance. Again, as I said in an earlier post, I would put 96 RON Caltex Vortex in my old cars, but it didn't return the econmy of the 98 RON Optimax.

Sorry to post 8,000,000 times in this thread, but I have always been weary of the fuels I am putting in my cars.
