I am 80% sure I know where the BOV is I would like someone in the know to confirm that 20%.So any pics would be nice. Mario Mendoza Member 82 Member For: 21y 1m 28d Location: Blue Mountains Posted 23/07/04 02:29 PM Share Posted 23/07/04 02:29 PM Prbly not really a problem with your BOV if it no longer makes a fluttering noise, as a car with an efficient BOV should not flutter. The fluttering sound is caused by your BOV not corrretly venting the air (atmo or not) The sound comes from the Turbo intake and is called compressor surge. It's made when air is forced back into the turbo cause it's got no-where else to go when you shut the gas off. You might receive a slight amount of flutter periodically as the BOV piston is actuated, but shouldn't be that noticeable...So by the sounds of it they fixed your BOV I'm told that compressor surge is actually bad for a turbo, kinda the opposite of what you should be doing to a turbo, as the air suddenly slows the compressor down as it's forced back through it each time your're on/off the gas.So I'm told........... I dont understand how a BOV can vent air silently, I have never seen or heard a silent BOV before, even the majority of plumb back BOV's I have heard have all made a noise, and some quite a loud one. Saleen - Thanks mate, it seems my 80% assumption was correct, but now I am certain. YOOT Member 1,201 Member For: 21y 11m 6d Location: Birkdale Posted 23/07/04 10:12 PM Share Posted 23/07/04 10:12 PM I think you'll find the plumb back is more efficient because it helps spool the turbo faster by dumping a heap of air at hi velocity back through it. And yes the flutter is the noise of the air hitting the turbo's impella blades, not the valve itself. The valve should be silent, and that flutter we all love to hear is the turbulent are entering the turbo. Two separate things. Ok, so why would ford release a car that doesnt have a BOV that functions properly, and it will only funtion properly after it has been tampered with?Something doesnt seem to add up to me. HUSTLER Member 663 Member For: 21y 9m 5d Location: Broken Hill Posted 24/07/04 03:24 AM Share Posted 24/07/04 03:24 AM My BOV from factory leaked like a siv!! once I changed the BOV to an after market one, I gained 11kw on the dyno!! It was tuned with the leakey one and then withoutout, within two days of each other and that was the diff!! seems astonishing to me the diff it made!! Also the flutter that I used to get pretty loudly has now pretty much completly ceased!Point here being, ford do send out some stuffed BOV from factory! It doesn't funtion preperly, in fact it operates in reverse to every other BOV in every other Turbo car. Its generally a much better design, I don't know the fine details, but I could get them if you really want. Still, wasn't your original question regarding the paper from your dealer mishap? I always thought that realising to atmo was more efficient because it allows your turbo to free spin whilst your changing gears, hence, less spool up time when you hit the gas again !!
