My T has just clocked about 7000k's and I have heard that doing an oil change is important at this time by a few people ( including the sales guy who sold me the car). So with that being the case how would I go about this? and what oil to use? Synthetic, semi-synthetic or what?

A) Take it into a dealer and get them to do it

B) Get a private mechanic to do it and tell them which oil to use

(comedy option) C) Do it myself with humerous/disasterous consequences as I have no idea what I am doing.

Any impute would be much appreciated thanks.

Hey killbot, did you change it at your 3000k check up?

Mate I personally would do it myself, in realtion to oils there are plenty of good syth oils and everyone seems to use different ones dependant on their choice.

Mate I would like you to take option C, we will get some of the members to come over with some beers, we will watch and drink while you attempt it, :beerchug: could'nt think of a better way to spend a Sat afternoon laughing!

Killbot,

Changing your oil now is a great idea. Mine has done 3000km and I am doing the change this weekend, as 15,000km is WAY too long.

If you have never changed oil, I suggest you take it to any mechanic and pay $100 for the job. The dealer will do the same, it will only cost you more. I suggest that you stick with a mineral oil and not go synthetic as the engine is still running in and synthetic will prevent the engine running in properly.

I had the oil and filter changed by the dealer at 3000 and 9000k's. Can't do any harm to change the oil more frequently than recommended.

But I really feel like the odd one out here as I am doing something really weird and eccentric.....I'm using the LPG 1540 oil recommended by ford for the Turbo. I figured Ford might just have some idea what oil works best in these cars....silly me!

When I get time, I'll have to wade thru all the oily posts and find out what's wrong with the oil Ford recommend so I'll know why I shouldn't be using it.

Mate do it yourself not that hard I used shell helix plus it comes in the blue bottle

you need 2 x 5 litres and of course an oil filter the T Takes about 7 litres but read your manual. Get a mate to come round and help if u not sure, but at least you will know how to do it the next time.

I changed mine at 1,000ks and 5,000ks and will do every 5,000ks from now on.

I use Magnetic.

If you do it on your own, do yourself a favour and buy a motorcraft filter, that way you'll eliminate any possible issues with warranty (Not really relevant to me :spoton: ).

I get it done at a local shop, that way I can have a good look under the car while the oils draining.

Try Penrite 10/10ths Synthetic it has the widest SAE ratings of any commercially available motore oil. Covers cold starts and extreme heats by a wide margin.
