I keep hearing people say "wow I wish ford did this and wow ford should do that" and even "why dont ford do this as well"

Well I say ford get your finger out and get your product right before you waste money and time hiding your problems with marketing and new damn colours!

I had a series 1 '99 XLS ute and with all the K's I did it was not back to ford for any single problem. that's right not one! Near 100 000 k's in 3 years and it was never at ford for anything more than a scheduled service and people say the AU is a car.

Now my supposedly fantastic XR turbo. Dont get me wrong I love to drive the car but in 12 months and less than 25000 k's ive had the engine bay repainted due to peeling paint, and exterior paint repairs after it was scratched by the dealer while it was being repaired.

Ive had the clutch drained (due to tainted clutch fluid or corrosion of the master cylinders, ford cant tell me which onebut its about to be done again).

Ive had the brakes machined and shimmed.

Ive had interior trim replaced ( with the gear shift boot about to be replaced for the 3rd time)

I have serious drivetrain lash and now to top it all off the heater has just itself.

Come on ford dont try to catch up to Expensive Daewoo by producing new cars quicker try producing a "better" car. By that I mean more reliable and of a higher quality finish. Not a car that will experience a littany of problems that not one single owner seems to escape.

At this point in time the only thing keeping me buying ford is the simple fact that I cant stand to drive a Late model camira ute. But a hilux is starting to look better.

I hear ya, the build quality is starting to look pretty shaby compared even to the Late model camira which I thought was bad.

true that to the gear shift boot... they are very poor quality, both my old mans XR8 and my brothers xr6 have had thier gear shift boot's replaced, and I believe that my brothers one is starting to get a tear in it again.

they should be made with a more stronger and thicker leather.

But unfortunately for the consumer, Ford will spark more interest via new colours and new 'this and that's' as opposed to fixing the problems they currently have with product quality. They won't want to go on like this for too long though or the whole world will label Ford Australia as a product quality misfit......................if it hasn't started to already.

Don't want to alarm you about the Hilux, but they have their fair share of problems too.

Mate's son has a top of the range dual cab turbo hilux.... driving home on Saturday night, adjusted his seat and then made an adjustment to his steering wheel position, and the Hilux died. Could not revive. Total power cutout???

Pissing down with rain, all he could do was wait for RAA.

Had RAA tow him home, and then had it towed to dealer on Monday....

It's only 6 months old and has less than 5000km... So its NOT just FORD.

The greater use of electronics and wizz bang technology in modern cars has been the major reason for reduced reliability in a lot of cases.

I love my old classic vette. built in 1968, and if anything does go wrong, any joe mechanic with half an ounce of aptitude will get it going in no time.

It's NOT good enough, agreed. But all the manufacturers have QC issues.

Unfortunately, BA is first model and has a few more than expected.

Accept the fact there will be issues. If at the end of the day you get so pissed off that you do change camps, don't be totally upset when you find problems exist with your next new purchase.

I still think the XR6T utes represent fantastic value for the performance, comfort, handling and sheer GRIN factor.

Dont get me wrong I love the car its just the constant problems that are starting to get to me.

I can accept a few little glitches here and there but now I lose my car for 2 days to have a 50c part replaced.

Remember my brand new series one AU I.e 1st of a new model never had one single problem so these issues cant just be attributed to the BA being a new model.

Doh! I wish I had not heard that, was looking at my engine bay this morning and all the paint has peeled away back to bare metal down by the Turbo! Not to mention now my premium sound has started to make a high pitched sound as the car drives along!

that's not just a premium problem.

My standard system does it regularly. It seems to be a combination of having the aircon switched on and possibly certain atmospheric conditions as it is only intermittent (as in only on some days not others and different times of the day) and ford cant seem to get it to happen when the car is in the shop.

Last time they looked they dismantled parts of the interior all over the place and it took me a day of tinkering around to get rid of all the new vibrations.

Yeah Rusty could not get it to do it today. I was away in Ballarat at the start of the week, it was bloody cold and the high pitched sound was constant, even if you turn the volume off you can still hear it. The sound goes in rythm with the car as I change gears, does it on any station & CD and AUX.

It seems some days it does others it does'nt? :holiday: No I am not going crazy!
