Guest Basher_tsv Guests Posted 31/05/04 05:10 AM Share Posted 31/05/04 05:10 AM Now I will have to dig out my pic of a 25kg GT caught off the beach with a 100pd handline - with nuthin but a hook tied on the end. Didn't even take bait with me - just jagged a sardine with the hook beforehand I like fishing tales ! This will be a good thread!!You should have seen the one that got away B Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/11037-i-caught-a-fish-and-it-was-this-big/page/2/#findComment-128618 Share on other sites

When I worked in Bowen the owner used to let us fish there. The pump used to pump the fingerlings in and they would grow up and not get out. 80cm barra was not uncommon. Mudcrabs everything. (not mactheknife, Ken before you jump in and ask if you could ne next, the mack in the photo) OK.........Sounds like this is a fully fledged fishing flight of fanciful fings.Look forward to a few snaps curious.Me?...I'm one of those wannabe anglers. Love the sport but only get a line in the water once every coupla years. Soon to change a little with the aquisition of a 5m or so runabout for use around Moreton bay and associated waterways. (Must keep being nice to SHMBO)Best I can boast is a Queenie and a Threadfin (King) salmon from around the mouth of the Mission River in Weipa one hot November. Gave the Queenie away to some locals but took the Salmon fillets home to Bris. No photos but they were both probably about 40-50cm long and by far the biggest fish I'd ever caught. In fact, the Queenie broke the rod that I had just purchased from the local Woolies a couple of days before. But more stories to come I'll bet Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/11037-i-caught-a-fish-and-it-was-this-big/page/2/#findComment-128630 Share on other sites
Guest Basher_tsv Guests Posted 31/05/04 06:03 AM Share Posted 31/05/04 06:03 AM My 4 months in the Torres Strait (Badu Island) opened my eyes to the fishing up there. Pulling in coral trout you can hold with 2 arms whilst a dugong surfaces befind the boat and trevally smash up the bait a little further out was one unforgettable time. Then jump over the side and throw in 3 big crays before heading back to camp ... in about half an hour Bowen coke saltworks would have been a great spot in it's day I am sure !! Get down there very often doing works at the adjacent coke works and actually did the design work on the new salt works shed/complex/tower. Great spot with great beaches !!Cheers!B Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/11037-i-caught-a-fish-and-it-was-this-big/page/2/#findComment-128632 Share on other sites
Redhawk ....Time to lay this fairytale aside...... Donating Members 2,657 Member For: 22y 2m 20d Gender: Male Location: In the Ferry on the River Styx, not getting out just yet! Posted 31/05/04 06:21 AM Share Posted 31/05/04 06:21 AM Maaaayte,You have'nt seen fishing until you go to the North West........Dampier Archepeligo, Barrow Island etc; fantastic place. Must be for me to catch Spaniards like that, sailfish (yes I have pics), tuna, huge spotted cod, Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Cobia, more sharks than you can wave a stick at.It's that good we headed out for a trip, loaded the gear, beer etc; and not a scrap of bait (well we were rather hung over from the Saturday night!). Got to Bare Rock, tied a ring pull to a smallish hook, caught a little tomato cod and it was on for young and old, bought back a meat bain full of NW snapper, coral trout and cod. AAAAHHHH.......those were the days!
