The sky is the limit really. One of the other forum members has a turbo AU XR6, probably best to talk with him and see what is involved.Supercharging is another option. See http://www.capa.com.au/prices_kits.htm for more details (start from $ 5,354.00 ~ 200kw). Guest JESMAL Guests Posted 27/02/03 06:31 AM Share Posted 27/02/03 06:31 AM One of the other forum members has a turbo AU XR6, probably best to talk with him and see what is involved. Errrmmmm....... Could that be me? Yes, the sky's the limit when your turbocharge your vehicle, that's what everyone says but it's not entirely true. Lets take my AU XR6 engine for example. The engine is able to handle up to 300kw (flywheel of course) reliably without any internal mods (cams, pistons, etc.). Anything above that figure, you'll have to look at pistons, fuel pump upgrade, new injectors, new computer (can be piggy back), and not forgetting transmission enhancements. This, you'll be looking at easily 8-10 grand (depending on whom you approach). IMHO, it ain't worth the dough coz comparing the gains (counting from 300kw for my case) dop not justify the extra 10 grand. You can always whack on a T05 turbo (without enahncing the strength of your engine and transmission) which gives you 15-20psi of boost easily but then you'll get to enjoy that for a very short period of time (back to the mechanic and lots more money to spend for repairs) Some people do that and I simply don't understand why...silly actually. The outcome of the turbocharging project on my XR6 is fantastic. The boost has been set at 7psi though the mechanic has advised that achieving the max boost sometimes is influenced by the atmospheric temperature which influences the temp of the air that gets sucked in. I've got a digital turbo timer in my XR6 and I tested the beast out on a rather normal 28-30 dgerees Melbourne afternoon and I managed to push my baby to 6.5psi! Can't wait till winter...mannn...that'd be sweet! This project cost me $7500 and I must say its the best and most economical modification I've ever done to my XR6. But that is for a T03 turbo kit. If you're after a T04 or T05, you can add another 1500-2000 on top of that package price.Let me know if you need more info. Guest RoyalBlue Guests Posted 08/03/03 05:42 AM Share Posted 08/03/03 05:42 AM I've been considering to turbocharge my 4ltr EA, but after getting a few mates-rates quotes it is just way too exspensive (around $8,000 - $15,000 with a minimum of 200rw kws). I have been told thatthe t5 gearbox won't handle much more than 250flywheel kws, but I am not sure on that.the products you need are :custom exhaust manifold & dump pipeturbocharger injectorsfuel pumpfuel reg.decent aftermarket ignitionecu & tuningintercooler and pipingair filterblow off valveboost controllerthe list goes on and on. turbocharging my car is still not out of the question, but im also considering an EFI nitrous kit for around $3,000 with progression controller, bottle warmer, and bottle, all installed. With shot peen rods, forgies etc., 450hp shouldn't be out of the question. If your still considering the turbo set-up, "Kyle Hopf" (400+rwkws turbo EA from "Zoom" isue no. 59) does build turbo kit for most E series fords. He is located in Toowoomba for the Qld'ers and he does do extremely good prices. PM me if you would like his ph. number.cheersdaniel Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1085-i-want-to-fit-a-turbo-to-my-eb-xr6/#findComment-12614 Share on other sites
