Turbo life?

Hi chaps!

Getting a XR6 Ute at the end of the year. Thinking of getting a T but the only concern is how will she go after a couple of years (average use). Anyone got a guess or an original WRX or a VL Turbo??? :)

This will be my first turbo and im your standard Aussie ape :D (I.e. "oh man, sick V8" *insert Tim the toolman Taylor sound*)

I'm prepared to do without the extra fun if it means better reliability in the long run (bikes are where the REAL speed is hehe).

Thanks to XRChic also for your passionate bleating on the topic of BA paint :) I'll be sure to check the car before the cash is handed over.

Thanks in advance,

Gaz

(P.S. does anyone know if the Luxury pack is going to be added to the utes?)

Hi Gaz

I dont see why you should have any problems with the turbo especially if left at moderate power levels. Ive had turbos for years started with a Sigma many moons ago.

Cheers

Frank

Have my wrx for 4 years and 135000 klms and been using synthetic engine oil and never worried about cooling it down after normal driving and still putting out the same boost as the day I got her. For that fact have run synthetic oil in the diff and gearbox certainly made an improvement to the box. May consider it for the T.

The turbo may certainly be the first part of the engine to wear out (on an unmodified engine) but it will be many KMs down the road - I'd hazard a guess at about 200,000km or so before an overhaul.

I've had the same Garrett turbo on my sons rex now for 6 years without a problem. I'd expect the Garrett turbo on the Ford to be one of most reliable components on the car.

Welcome icky,

these cars are still Fords & are designed to last in our conditions, treatmment is still relative, but parts are still cheap with a long motor costing little more than $5k
