April 25, 200422 yr I've got some plastic chatter (annoying noise) coming from what seems to be the trim of my driver's door. Anyone know how to remove and replace the trim? I'd rather do it myself than give it to the local service guys to botch.Cheers.
April 25, 200422 yr Dont be a bunny, rabbit once you touch it they can wiggle out of warranty,LET THE DEALER DO IT or it might end in tears.vik
April 25, 200422 yr Yeah, I've got a slight rattle from the passenger side door. Sounds like maybe the speaker is a bit loose as the bass sort of reverberates. I just want to get in there with a scrwedriver .... don't want to take time off work to drop it off at the dealers etc etc when I might be able to do it myself ... is it easy to take off yourself or is it quite fiddly ????
April 25, 200422 yr I've done the passenger one - easy peasy. Have to do the drivers one one Saturday when I've got nothing better to do. There's a faint tinny rattle that's only there when I park my elbow (even lightly) on the sill. It's not rocket science and I'd back my own skill and care over the dealership apprentice!
April 25, 200422 yr I get the impression you guys dont have much faith in the FORD guys :o strange that
April 25, 200422 yr I've done the passenger one - easy peasy. Zeke - could you give me a hand, how do I get it off ??? Thanx !!!
April 25, 200422 yr I'm not near the car at the moment, but, from memory:Start by using a small/medium flat screwdriver to prise off the small round cover plate for the screw holding the door handle in place. Then prise off the L shaped filler strip in the door handle - look closely and you'll see a couple of recesses for the screwdriver blade. There are also little round cover pates over a couple of screws at the bottom of the door - these might respond to a smaller screwdriver or something finer. Then I think it's several phillips head screws under each of those cover plates and around the edge of the door trim.I think the handle is fed through the door trim and stays on the door. The window wiring has to be disconnected at a plug and socket or, alternatively, the switch unclipped from its housing. When everything is free, it's just a matter of pulling the bottom of the trim and lifting the whole thing gently to release it. On other cars I have taken the door trim off, the door cavity is sealed with clear plastic and something like silicone. On the BA, it's foam rubber instead. In my car, the foam was all askew and the screws were through the wrong bits. I don't know if it was like that from factory or if the window tinter did a cruddy job if and when he took off the door trims and put them back.Like anything else, it's a matter of taking your time and working somewhere where the lighting is good. Be careful and don't force anything if it doesn't seem to want to release. Chances are there's something more to undo first.Don't forget that you will probably do it better than the pimply-faced apprentice that's rushing to get it done before his lunch break!Cheerszeke
April 25, 200422 yr Zeke - Fantastic and very detailed reply !! Many thanx ... I will have a go at that during the weekend, the minor reverberation and slight rattle on rough roads annoy me !!!! My old Rex (the '99 model) had rattles all over the place due to the rock-hard suspension and the castor kit so never worried about it but the T is soooo quiet and refined so want to get rid of every little noise !

And I thought it was just my mind playing tricks. Hmm she goes in Wed so I think I will put that on the list, it will be No.9!
