Hi, Please excuse my ignorance, my 2004 BA XR6T has been running really rough lately, using more fuel, rough idle, really lagging when accelerating from a dead stop etc. I have done a bit of homework and determined the problem might be the O2 sensor, I recently replaced the spark plugs thinking they might be the problem but it wasn't the case. So I ordered a new replacement one following some advice from another forum but I am having a hard time locating exactly where the sensor is in the car! I spied what looks like it could be the wire for it, right at the back of the engine on the driver's side under a shield. Am I right? Could someone please point me in the right direction. Also, obviously I have never replaced one before so any advice would be appreciated, it looks like it might be tough to get to! Thanks in advance, Ben

Hey Guys, Long story short. A while back when I had some o2 sensor issues. My former mechanic replaced my o2 sensors with non genuine ones, after he did this I still had issues and then he put a device in my exhaust that the o2 sensor piggybacked onto which is meant to slow/swirl the air and let the sensor read better (this is the sensor after the cat). Again I still had issues and after reading these forums it states that the Turbos only like genuine sensors. So I replaced the dump pipe sensor with a genuine one, and hey presto! my car seemed 100% fixed. However on the weeked I decided to take this rediculous pice out of my exhaust and see if it makes a difference to my power or anything. And just tonight I had the orange light of death come on (Engine light). So when I got home I plugged my elm in and found this.. P0420, Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1) and the description read - Engine travelling at steady highway conditions for 5mins in closed loop, PCM detected Ho2s switch rate was too high. Now my first thought was, well obviously it needs the genuine sensor to read properly. But isnt bank 1 the dump pipe sensor? And last question. Is driving around with my car "below threshold efficiency" going to do any damage? So much for my long story short. But hey, I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.. Cheers, John.
