it was bad enough to put me off the car ....for now Didn't happen on gentle acceleration, but mainly when I was accelerating a bit harder

hi all test drove a brand new G6ETurbo yesterday with the salesman on board. Even after about 10km, fully warmed up, I noticed that when I lifted my foot off the accelerator, say at 80kmh or even 60kmh, the car would lurch forward, more than I'd expect... He reckoned it was normal, but I'm pretty sure the XR6T auto that I drove on the weekend didn't have this. Is this a 'known' issue with the gearbox? Or is it something unique to the G6ET? cheers S

okay...the folks at Ford kindly let me borrow a demo XR6T auto for the weekend! Enjoyed it...a lot! my thoughts: Positives: power was good! Especially uphills. gearbox was pretty good, most times would kickdown pretty quickly. the suspension (18 in wheels) was not too firm. Seemed just right. Slight roll, but nice on the 'swishback'. Was nice to be able to control oversteer on the throttle to give that nice floaty feeling to the rear Windnoise was quite low, with just a gentle hiss from the door edge/mirror Premium audio was good. Loved the Ipod integration and the MP3 title display! Bluetooth was easy to set up. Is it meant to be able to show the phone number on screen? (didn't have the manual in the car) AC performance: wasn't able to check due to cool weather but controls were easy to use and the display was nice Negatives: Some road noise on some road surfaces, but nothing dramatic. Driver's seat literally gave me a backache, even with careful setup and using the lumbar adjustment to the max. Felt it was a bit soft, and the lateral support was also rather soft. Some of the finer fitment and operation was a little rough, but nothing major (eg ext mirror movements, glovebox dropping, strange glovebox light pattern) Rear seat headrests are not high enough for anyone over 5ft 8 Didn't like the blue rings around the dials (personal preference) Visibility - A pillar was slightly too thick and came into my field of view quite often, especially in carparking areas. Overall I felt the car wasn't 'hardcore' as some people have said. It's actually much more user friendly than a Golf GTI for example (let alone a WRX!). But that's not a criticism! Also it was nice that the car felt smaller than it actually is, when driving. That's a sign of good body/suspension/throttle response design. So how different is the handling/roll on the G6ET compared to an XR6T? I can't get a G6ET to try out...

guys this is a useful thread for anyone planning to buy a G6ET. It would be good if people could please just post the price they paid (on the road), together with any other options they got. It would really help others get a good price, and would help Ford sell more of their cars too! If you're willing to, please post the dealer's name as well (after all they could get more business out of this) I don't think opinions on the car vs another car are needed here (there's plenty of other threads for that!) cheers

Was reading another thread on this forum about prices of G6Eturbos, and I remember seeing people paying ~ $43 - 44k driveaway, with options like tinting/19 inch wheels. Are any dealers doing prices like that (or like Hazey's price above)? Or are those low prices hard to get? I'd be keen on the Edge colour as well, but wouldn't want to pay that much more for it compared to a non-50th. I'd be happy with Seduce as well...

okay...now I'm a little confused Just went to the auction place to quietly look at a G6E non-turbo they had there. This one had: 1. a glovebox that was definetely damped when opening. Nice! 2. chrome around the centre controls. I thought all G6Es had piano black finish, or is that only the Turbo versions? 3. footwell lamp only seemed to be on driver's side. p.s. how on earth can I get the instrument lighting to come on? I switched on the engine and then the headlights, but the instrument panel was still un-lit! cheers S

hi all hoping you can help with some questions regarding the G6Eturbo... 1. were there any changes between 2008 and 2010 models? 2. is the G6ET actually lighter weight than the Xr6T (as it states on Redbook online). Find that hard to believe with all the additional equipment 3. is the suspension not as firm as the XR6, but firmer than stock? 4. are the servicing costs the same as the Xr6T? many thanks guys S

Thanks guys Is the white instrument lighting on the G6ET throughout the dash, including the AC/ Audio controls, or just on the instruments? On a separate note, I've always been a bit puzzled about the dual centre cabin lights. Are they meant to be rear seat reading lights? Surprising they didn't do a glovebox dampener, guess it doesn't bother most people! cheers Satz

just a couple of questions about the G6ET.... 1. what colour is the dash lighting at night? Is it blue like the XR6, or white? 2. does the glovebox have a 'damped' motion, or does it just drop, like in the normal Falcons? cheers S

hi all coming closer, and closer, to making a decision on a Ford. Now wondering what the thoughts are on the G6ET vs XR6T. Not meaning to start a 'war', but to try to focus on particular things: 1. handling (esp given the XR6 has the LSD, and the G6E doesn't) 2. acceleration (in gear and 0-100) 3. NVH Saw a 50th Anniv G6ET in Ego/Edge and it looked beastly! (in a good way I mean!) btw, what exactly is the difference between the Edge and Ego colour?

I definetely want the performance!....plus being able to drive 'normally' 70% of the time

Managed to have an extended test drive by myself today. Was impressed with the power...at first. Esp off the line. But was surprised by how much I had to floor it to get great in gear acceleration once the car was moving. Just didn't get the kick in the back I was expecting... Kickdown was a bit slower than I expected. Ride was good. Car didn't feel as huge as it actually is..which was good. Premium sound was lacking in bass even after I adjusted the bass level. The connected iPod sounded much richer/deeper than FM radio..is it differently equalized? I loved the rear tyre squirm and loss of traction off the line. The leather in the lux pack has no smell at all :( But seems to smell better in the 50th Anniv! 50th anniversary looks better, but I worry that ride will be rougher and replacement cost of 19 in tyres. Overall still like the car heaps.. Though I don't think it's anywhere near 'hardcore' as one earlier poster implied. Quite easy to drive at any level, but just didn't feel like 530nm under my foot. I liked the nitro, silver, edge and mystic colours.. Does anyone know if Edge is different to Ego colour? The GM at the dealership reckoned it was just a 'new name'.

thanks guys good to get a feeling of how it is to own an FG XR6T There was a post that was up yesterday, but seems to have dissappeared today. The poster seemed dissappointed with the car (and its AC) on hot days. And I think he was also p***ed off about the Premium Audio, Paint thickness and windnoise? Are they common gripes? cheers Satz

thanks guys it's weird that it's not mentioned in the brochure or in most writeups As long as they don't track the use of overboost via their diagnostics, and then try to invalidate any warranty

hi all am getting close to deciding on an XR6T (or G6ET)...or Mazda MPS3 Was wondering if any of you who've owned either of the Ford (sedans only please), could let me know your thoughts on daily life with the car: eg: does it ride fairly smoothly on suburban roads how's the windnoise at 110kmh? how's the AC on the hottest day, say after the car's been parked (with a hot engine) what's the best fuel parking stereo (esp the Premium one) any complaints? Am trying to get a feeling of what long-term owners still feel about their car? Does it still thrill you to drive it? would really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts... many thanks S

hi all I remember reading one or two magazine reviews on the FG XR6T stating that the torque was normally 530nM (I think), but up to 550nM momentarily on 'overboost' I can't find those articles again, but is that really something that's built in to both the XR6T and G6ET? or an urban myth? And is it on the Auto and Man versions (of the 6T)? cheers S

am guessing that if they do have an FG 'upgrade' it might have: 1. touchscreen colour screen to control stereo? 2. delete the blue rings around the speedo and tacho 3. include door mirror indicators 4. slight improvement in economy, which I think came with the Euro IV update a couple of months ago? good to hear. One review I read stated the FG XR6 had poor AC so of course I got worried. I reckoned that Aussie cars would have the best AC! My Mazda's AC did suffer from the underbonnet heat after it was parked say for 15 minutes. Seemed like all the AC ducting/evaporator whatever used to heat up and it would pump out warmish air for a long time.... :(
