I thought this forum was about xr6 turbos wasnt it? Well this forum should discuss all aspects of the car, and unfortunatley there are both positive and negative.... Oh, and in case you have not figured it out yet, the website you were looking for MR Dagabond was www.ignorantxr6towners.com.fool

Rod, Dont listen to all these one eyed fools who have been lucky enough to get a vehicle with no problems. I have had probs with my XR6t too and can sympathise with you. I have spoken to somebody within ford and have voiced my opinion on the ability of the diff to hold up to the cars torque, especially low down. He was very non commital. He said that the problem with my diff will be rectified when it is changed for a new unit, however I beleive this is merely a short term solution and the problem will resurface after 5000kms. When this does occur, I will be asking all people in this forum who have had diff problems for their details and a description of the problem and I am going to take this further. The diffs in these cars are not suitable and Ford has taken the cheap option, hoping that only 1 in 10 people drive the car hard enough for the problem to surface. This way, it is more economical to change a limited number of diffs during warranty period than to put a more expensive diff in the vehicles which would handle the power from day 1. Another person I had spoken in Ford said that Ford had deliberately made the diffs weak to be the breaking point. He said it was more economical for a diff to be changed rather than a gearbox. Like I have said in an earlier post, I had a MY00 wrx for 2 1/2 years without problem, as the vehicle has been engineered as a complete package. I was kind of hoping that Ford had the same approach to their motor vehicles. Londas
  3. Boys & Girls, Thank you all for the warm welcome into your unbiased and totally objective discussion forum. I would firstly like to correct a mistake I made in my first email, I did not own a VY series II SS, it was in fact a VTII SS. (I might point out here that T and Y are next to each other on the keyboard and this contributed to the error) Secondly, I would like to agree with the comments of Mickq in that the quality of Aussie made vehicles is unfortunatly very much below par when compared to Jap and Euro cars. I know everybody will start hurling abuse at me for saying this, but it is the truth. I am one of those blokes who sees things and calls things as they are, unlike ducatijb, who seems to have forgotten to take the blinkers off. Maybe I should have kept my WRX.... but since insurance was costing me $4000 a year, I decided to the more economical option and buy the ford. The ford is great value for money as it offers a hell of a lot as a vehicle............. but sadly my friends, it aint a wrx. The wrx is a purpose built speed machine that would get from A - B on any road or race track in Australia quicker than the XR6T. Not by much, but nevertheless quicker. And I dare say it would not complain one bit. And ZMAN, I am 185cm and 104kg, and the WRX was comfy. I am looking forward to getting the Best out of my XR6t. Just hope it can live up to the hype.
  4. Fellow XR6T owners, I have owned 4 vehicles prior to my current XR6T and im quite dissapointed especially after forking out 50,000. I have had the car for 2 1/2 weeks and already the diff is being changed next week. Apart from the diff, the engine has stalled twice after some spirited driving and the check engine light also seems to have a mind of its own. I have owned an N14 SSS Pulsar ( top little performer and bulletproof), a VY 2 5.7 lt SS Commodore (a piece of rubbish, blew the diff, sold it after 9 months) and two subaru WRXs. I must say that the subaru is a far superior vehicle to the XR6T, in reliabilty, straight line speed, handling, steering, braking and the only categories that the XR6t would be better are comfort and insurance premium cost. The WRX was also a bulletproof proposition and never once complained after being driven hard. I beleive this is because the vehicle was engineered with this in mind however the XR6 t, although endowed with a terrific motor, has been engineered as a family car and not a performance vehicle. My main concern now is if the car is going to hold together, and I hope I dont have problems with gearbox and motor. Londas
