Typhoon - Auto Or Manual
+1 I've had both a BA MK2 in manual and an auto BF and the ZF is great. I have moments when I wish I had the manual again....then I sit in traffic for an hour and thank god its manual. The manual is a pig in traffic! It farts and carries on in 1st gear and low revs. If I lived out bush I would take the manual next time no question. If you drive any more than 10% of the time in stop start traffic, you will wish you had the auto.

XR6 Turbo Fuel Consumption: Real-World Economy Figures
With mine I get between 12.5 and 13l/ 100km. That's mainly crawling around in city traffic and some hwy travel. Interestingly, last Wednesday at Qld Raceway, I went through 3/4 of a tank of BP ultimate in 20 laps. (10 laps of clubman ciruit and 10 laps of the sprint circuit). Crap on fuel but worth every drop. A bit OT but the F6, in standard trim with standard rubber, managed to beat lots of modified cars on semi slicks. I did the 3rd fastest time od the day (104.4) on a day when the track was wet/moist in places. The fastest time was a lotus elise (101.9). I was really amazed by the track performance of the F6.

Fpv Drive Day
How many F6's were there today? The last time there I was one of 3 F6 Typhoons. All the rest were Gt, Gt-P and Pursuits. I think the tide has turned and there will be more F6's than Boss 290's. See you guys there tomorrow.

Fpv Drive Day
Hey Guys, Are any of you heading out to Qld Raceway next week for the FPV drive day? I'm booked in for Tuesday and my mate will be there with his GT-P. This will be my second time and I can't wait to give the 6sp auto a run. My daily grind along western freeway is getting very boring!

Went For A Test Drive
Overall I agree its a great gearbox but I don't think that its worth the $12K upgrade price yet. Is this the upgrade price for the box or the whole car? Surely your not saying they will trade your BA XR6T for a BF Tornado with 12k changeover? If that deal is actually on the table, you'd be mad not to take it. Assuming you could get a Tornado for $50k, that would mean they are giving you $38k for yours. Either way, a quick fling in a BF 6sp auto doesn't do it justice. You really need to let the box get used to your driving style. Having had a 4sp BA XR6T and then a 6sp manual F6, I can tell you the ZF auto is a counrty road ahead in every way. If you think the ZF changes like a slow shifting manual, you haven't driven a 6sp manual. The ZF will outshift a standard manual anyday. The only thing I miss about my manual is the heel/toe downshifting. There is nothing I miss about my XR6T 4sp auto. NOTHING!

Lemon Manual Bf Typhoon Swapped For A New One
My Ba F6 had a vibration at 100km/h in 6th. Dealer swaped the gearbox and never happened again. Talk about a fark up!

I'm Back.. And With A New Toy
Good work mate. Looks hot! I too have just come into the ZF gearbox and it really is smooth off the mark. I'm still a bit undecided at what the box is thinking at about 80-100km/hour. I just don't know if it is in the best gear from that speed. I heard it takes a while for the box to adapt to individual driving style. Over all its hard to fault the 6sp auto. Well done! I do miss the heel/toe braking of the manual.

Read ity again dude. Using spotlights inappropriately has gown DOWN from 3 DP to 1 DP. They are seeing this as a lessor offence.

Xr5 @ Qr
It awesome fun isn't it? Very addictive. If I can just give you some advise on your driving style.(take it or leave it). When you make a left turn (example turn 1), try not to drop your left hand like you do and pull down with your right. Instead, keep both hands on the wheel at the position you had them in down the main straight so that your left hand pushes the steering wheel to your right. The exact opposite when you turn left. In most cases you won't notice a difference, but if you have a lose you will at least know which way your wheels are pointing. I'm not telling you how to drive or anything. I have had lots of very experienced people coach me over the years and I like to pass the knowledge on. When I was watching the footage I was cringing when you were going through the infield because if the car lost traction your hands were in a bad position. Hope it helps

Too Good To Refuse!
Thanks Newl! I think the photos needed to be smaller. These are crappy photos anyway. I'll try and get some better ones and update my avatar too. Bloody alarm went off a few times during the night. Sorry XRT68

Too Good To Refuse!
I give up. I hit "browse" and selected the photo. I wait and then press "add this attachment" I wait some more and then nothing. Newl, I'd love to know where the "insert into post" button is. Funny thing is people usually come to me for IT support

Too Good To Refuse!
I have refraned from making further comments about the purchase until the vehicle was in my hands. There were a couple of momments when the deal wasn't going ahead when the dealer changed some of the conditions of the sale. In the end we got there and I am now the happy owner of a BF F6 Typhoon in Shockwave. Auto, 19" wheels, FPV wheel. I will post photos tonight. My first impression is that the auto is very smooth. I will need to do a few km in it to fully appreciate it. For now I will reserve judgement. A couple of gripes after only 1 hour. 1/. Spare wheel is a 18" XR wheel? Salesman said he would sort it out asap and replace it. No dramas. 2/. Slight scratch on the rear panel. Again, salesman apologised and said it would be sorted at the 1500km service. No dramas. 3/. Carbon fibre lookalike above glove box is discoloured and not even? Same response. Apart from these minor glitches I'm stoked. The wheels really set the car off. My wife took one look when I got home and said she prefered the old ones. (women?) Anyway, I will put a few km on it and give you all a comparo between BA and BF F6. Photos coming.............

F6 Typhoon Owners Question
No offence mate but do you honestly think that people who have paid extra to have a F6 would like to help you tart up a XR6T? If I were you I would go the other way and debadge you car to make it look like a sleeper. I cringe every time I see an XT Falcon with a GT Body kit. Be proud of what you have and don't turn it into a tranny

Too Good To Refuse!
Hey Goldie, I'm sure your beast will still have the edge on the new one. I will drop in one day and introduce myself. Your business on Olsen Ave which is just around the corner from my work. Its a pity the local ford dealer couldn't get close on price. I tried Sunshine ford first but they were 7k more on the BF and 3k less on the trade. Oh well.

Too Good To Refuse!
that's my point. I can't afford to lose $50k in 2 years. I can barely stand losing 21k with the F6.

Too Good To Refuse!
Yeah, it was a very close decision. Unlike a lot of people here, my brand loyalty is virtually zero. I looked at the VE R8 after seeing one in the flesh at Power Torque. They were putting a supercharger on one and it looked awesome. When I walked back to my car it did look a little plain compared to the VE. My plan was not to change over until Jan 07 but a couple of demo deals almost swayed me. The salesman only talked changeover and it worked out to be 28k after all the haggeling. The wait time for leather was 3 months minimum so, in my mind I put the deal off for this year. It was a chance encounter with the dealer where my car was being serviced that lead to the current deal. The dealer has 4 with the same options. All new. Lightening strike, Vixen and Bionic and white. I am finalizing the change over payment tomorrow morning and making a final decision on colour. At the moment the deal is for the Bionic but the dealer said I can change my mind. I was torn between Vixen and Bionic. I actually prefer lightening strike over all of them but my wife said she wouldn't let me get the same colour as the one we have. Women? To be perfectly honest( I hope the wife doesn't read this) I'm really not that excited about the swap. Being an early adopter of things new, I thought the VE was more wow factor. After driving the M3 around Qld raceway I really set my sights on one as my next car. I just can't justify the extra coin. Imagine the resale on a 2 year old M3 with 60k-70k km on the clock

Too Good To Refuse!
Well the time has come to trade in the my car and I was ALMOST enticed by the dark side. My F6 has just clocked up 60,000km and I thought it might be nice to get that fresh feel of a new car back. I test drove a VE R8 last week and I was ready to do the deal. The dealer only offered me $36 tade on my F6. Yesterday, while I was waiting to pick up car from the service department, I had a look at the current offerings. They had a 2006 BF Typhoon, 19's, leather, s/wheel : $55k drive away (NEW) They offered me $39k trade. Looked at the wife, she said............................ Just get it! I will miss the manual box with all of it's little eccentricities. I finally realise what all the fuss is about with the 6 speed auto. Its great! In all honesty, though, if there was a $2k surcharge for the auto box, I would have gone with manual again. I will post pics next week. Should be ready Friday next week.

Powertorque Tune
Picked up the car from PT tonight and I am stoked with the result. Shaun and Mark are absolutely great guys to deal with. There were some issues with the re-flashed setting thast Ford had loaded into my car making it hard for the guys to load the custom tune. After trying for the better part of the day, they got the result I wanted. Standard dyno run = 218 rwkw Pre-Loaded tune from Capa = 229rwkw Power Torque tune = 268rwkw The limiting factor were the standard injectors. This is a conservative tune with safe AFR's. I will try and load the dyno graph tomorrow. The car now makes most of its power by 2800rpm. In day to day driving this is where it is most usable. Its interesting when you can bag up the rears in second at 60km/h in the dry I can't recommend the guys at Power Torque highly enough. After I put a few kays on the new Tornado I've just bought, I will definitely go back to PT for a tune!!

Powertorque Tune
Well the Capa box is back and reset. I'm dropping the car off again tomorrow morning. The guys at PT are giving me a courtesy car for the day while mine grows some balls. I will post up the results tomorrow...........

30,000 Km Service
Depends on which oil they use. If its the "edge" then that will be $150 alone from Ford service. Thank you very much.

Powertorque Tune
Well guys, today has been interesting to say the least. Dropped the car off to PT at around 9am and I was expecting to get it back shortly after lunch. I get a phone call saying the bonnet release is shagged and they are having trouble opening the bonnet. The same thing happened to my XR6T so there is obviously a design fault from Ford. Anyway, of all the days for it to happen it happens today.(Friday the 13th). I told Shaun to do whatever needed doing and I would claim it under warranty. Shortly after I get another call. This time I'm told that my Capa Box has a tune loaded from the previous owner and it cannot be unlocked. The guys at PT contacted Capa and tried everything to reset it but, NO CIGAR! I told them I would buy another box from them and to proceed as planned. I will sort out the matter with the other box later !!!!! To kill some time, the wife, 2 kids and I decide to have Red Rooster for lunch. I order and bring the food outside where the family is waiting. I put the bag on the table and a guy grabs the food and does the bolt!! This genius steals our food right in front of us and hoofs it Foot Falcon. He doesn't grab my wifes hand bag that is sitting in the open with cash and cards; this dude steals our food. I get ready to chase him when my misus grabs me and tells me to let it go. [When I'm not running my 2 businesses I train heavily in MMA and I live for moments like this]. On top of the day I'm having, things could have gotten interesting. Instead, I let it go. I get back to PT at around 2pm and there is an issue with my fuel pump. I was always considering a better fuel pump to be safe so I tell the guys to fit one if they have time. Turns out a car with over 3/4 of a tank of fuel is not suitable for changing fuel pumps. This is my fault. When asked I said it had under 1/2 a tank. We discover its no good with the baby seat and rear seats out. At this point Shaun suggests we return the car to the standard tune and try again next week. Even better, he said he would send the locked box to Capa and pay to have it unlocked and sent back express post. I didn't end up having to buy another box and they returned my car to the standard tune. They apologised profusely and promised to get it right when the box came back. Not only that, but they ordered the bonnet latch from Ford and repaired it for free!! It is very rare to find people in business these days that actually take pride in what they do. Mark and Shaun from PT are a shining example of what customer service is all about. Things could have ended very differently indeed. Instead of being pissed off about being sold a dud box and all the other dramas from today, I actually drove home with a smile on my face. I'm certain that when the box comes back from CAPA I will have a very nicely tuned car. To be continued........

Powertorque Tune
I've read just about every thread on different tuners and what they offer. I don't want this to become another tuner war, so I am just going to state the facts and you can all judge for yourselves. Tomorrow morning, my F6 is getting a custom tune at PowerTorque. I know there have been people on here that have bagged them. There are others that say they are good. I know they are a LS1 specialist but I am willing to give them a go. If all else fails and it turns to then I will let the Wog have a go the next time he is up on Brissy. The car is bog stock and it is getting a tune only. On the PT dyno (conservative by all accounts) I am hoping to get around 270rwkw. I guess the ony thing that really matters is the 1/4 mile time so that will happen at Willowbank next test and tune night. I am curious to see what the car makes stock. My guess is 220rwkw. I will post up the results tomorrow. (Today actually, its 12.01am). sh*t, I just realised its Friday the 13th. I hope this is a good omen
