Think of the good to come out of this. In the late 80’s Mazda introduced there MX-5, there was such a wait for then that people who place order with Mazda early were taking delivery , driving there cars for 6 months and then selling them for more then they paid originally to people who could not wait. It may keep the prices of used Falcons up longer than say Commodore. Ford should address this issue quickly. We ordered our XR6T in mid May and have been told definitely mid July about 7-8 weeks. (Holden’s said 6 weeks for a SS) I will be PISSED with the dealer if it is any longer than 10 weeks. We had to give our trade-in in early so as far as I am concerned we kept our part of the contract agreement and hopefully the Ford dealer will keep there part of it to by supplying the car on time. I will be after legal compensation if it is any longer than 7-8 weeks for delivery. We nearly brought a BMW 330CLI and the dealer said 2 to 3 months from Germany guaranteed as it was a special build, I think 5-6 months is a Joke for an Australian built car.

I think the ethical thing to do is contact Ford and tell them there is a problem with there XR's like the Fairmont’s about there fog lights. We maybe able to suggest to then:- a) Supply different lights to each state for the life of the vehicle. (They might be able to do a change over thing! Or have conversion stations at each boarder crossing.) B) Place a multitude of lights on ever vehicle for every states regulation. (Like the night rider car "KIT") c) Remove then altogether and replace the other lights with sealed beam unit. d) Remove all lights altogether and put a sticker on the dash saying. "WARNING DO NOT USE THIS SELF PROPELLED CART AT NIGHT TIME do not remove this label as it will avoid your warranty" e) Set up state parameter boarders enabling the fog lights to deactivate when driven over state lines and into other states that have different laws, or disable the car totally until the lights are removed and the system is reset by a Ford dealer. f) Call then just lights. g) Change the badges on the car to Holden (Holden’s are exempt from any stupid laws) I think we should follow up with Ford and campaign our politicians over the matter as it is in the best interests of all Australians that this problem is sorted out promptly.

In South Australia and maybe the rest of Australia fog lights are determined buy having a yellow colored lens On one of the talk back radio stations over here they were talking to the police about this issue. It has got something to do with a law that states that you can not use a colored light that is facing forward unless there is fog and the main headlights have to be turned off. Maybe this is why Ford may of went to a clear lens to make then fog lights if needed and also can be use as wide spread beam driving lights. It is not illegal to use auxiliary forward facing lights with the other lights on low beam unless they are colored or dazzling to other drivers. This is properly why they defect cars with those STUPID little blue lights on the front. It is the same if you have fitted lights to your vehicle and you hadn’t wired then up yet, you can get defected for them not working. (Crazy hey:- something to do with all lights fitted to a vehicle have to be in good working order)

HU In the Falcon with premium sound there is two amps (one in the head unit in the dash 25 x 4 for the full range speakers and another in the boot for the sub 150 x 1) this is what I believe. With the high pass filter on the speaker all you are doing is cropping the frequency going to the speakers:- If you placed an amp meter on the power inputs on an amp and with music played into it from a CD player you may notice the amp is drawing 40 amps, now with the music set at the same volume disconnect the speakers and the amp meter will show nearly 0 amps….simple hey If the amp can not see the frequency the speakers will accept (cross over), it will not produce power at the given frequency. For example You are driving you car along a flat road on cruise set at 100 Kph and a hill appears so you leave it on cruise and you climb the hill at 100 Kph…no big deal and then you travel down the other side of the hill still at 100 Kph on cruise…the only thing that appears to have happened was that the engine worked a bit harder going up the hill and a bit less going down the hill and the fuel economy went from a little higher to a little lower…no big deal WHAT HAS THIS GOT TO DO WITH AUDIO Take the flat road as your mid range signal (vocals and most instruments). Take the up hill as bass (drums and doff doff). Take the down hill as your highs (clarinet and men’s voices when castrated). Take the speed as sound level. Take the fuel as sound quality. If the hill was maybe smaller or not there at your entire engine would not have to work harder and fuel economy would be lower, so if the bass is taken out your amp does not have to try a produce it and in return you your sound quality increases. Have a look at page 80 of your owners manual under power limiting, this is mostly found on cheaper OEM car stereos to keep the customer happy and maybe warranty claims .You will never see it on good quality after market stuff…why, better amplification of the signal. Next week I may talk about phantom centre speakers and AM stereo conversions…!

An RC and LC network will not really alter the frequency as they either alter the impedance of the driver or the volume of the driver making it possible to balance a multi speaker system like a Tweeter that is overly bright to a mid range or a mid bass. (this is different to time alignment of tweeters and mid range speakers) What I am talking about is high pass filters that let everything above the set low point through. With the amp I mean the amp in the head unit in the dash not the sub amp in the boot. By using a high pass filter on the head unit and main speakers you are altering the load characteristics of the amp and an amp will deliver better quality sound when it does not have to produce bass frequencies. This is the same as if you had to run a sub of the main amp in the head unit sure you can do it but the other frequencies will suffer because the lower you go in frequency the more cone movement you need to produce a pressure wave so you can hear it ………..it’s all to do with wave lengths In the late 80’s and early 90’s most of the leading brand car audio manufactures produced amps that were tri mode compatible for this reason. Even today most amps on the market can’t run down to 20Hz’s due to power supply switching issues….. is you did an analysis of the amp you may find it will go to 20Hz’s but from 100 Hz’s down there will be a increase sub harmonics making it sound like it is producing a lot of base. The only way to really fix this is to go to valve amps but then you have problems of supply voltage and currant load along with size. Or you can use a A/B class amp for 100Hz’s to 20 Khz’s and still use it below 100Hz’s or use a class D amp for 100Hz’s and below (you can not use a class D amp above 100Hz’s due to power supply switching noise) It’s the old story every thing is a compromise due to space and or price. Sorry if I am wrong or I didn’t answer your question properly.

We got told no factory discount at all and all discounts are of the dealers own back. The dealer offered us the normal things like mats, tank of fuel etc. and $2000 discount We have brought cars off of this dealership before and we have our company cars serviced with them but still no fleet. Spoke to another dealer who lost out on a sale with or last purchase (XR6 ute) due to no stock being available to them. Originally the second dealer gave the same price as the first dealer with the discount so we asked him to review the pricing. He came back with another $2500 discount brining the total to $4500 plus the mats, boot carpet, scuff plates etc. They will discount….Just tell then you are buying a VY SS Late model camira instead of the Falcon XR6T because it is a better car.

You are creating a very crude 6dB per octave at 100/120 Hz’s high pass filter for the main speakers. If your amp doesn’t have to produce the frequency below 80 Hz’s, this leaves more power for the mid to high range be allowing more headroom in the amp. This is only good in multi speaker systems like premium sound with sub. I don’t think there is any high pass filters in the BA’s but I think there would be a low pass for the sub as you would get vocals coming through the sub. All you do is connect the - side of the cap to the + side of the speaker and the + side of the cap to the + speaker wire……you leave the – speaker wire connected to the speaker. SORRY there was a typo in the last message I posted the cap should have been a 330uf electrolytic. If you want to go 1 step better make a 12DB per octave at 80/100 Hz’s high pass filter use the same cap the same way but put a 11mH choke/coil between the + and – of the speaker after the cap as well. If anyone tries this in a Falcon please let me know what difference it made.
-
An 8 inch sub is OK but a 10 inch is a lot better. What you’d might want to try is placing 130uf electro cap across your main speakers to try and cut out the sub bass coming through. As a rule of thumb 20% of power goes to the highs/tweeters, 30% to the mid/full range speakers and 50% to the bass/sub. By putting the cap across your main speakers you are filtering out the sub bass portion of the sound and let the sub do the work. Most cheap car stereos with built in amps (this probably includes the Falcon) distort when cranked up to far, the main cause of this not always the speaker but the inbuilt amp itself, so by capping the speakers the amp does not have to work so hard! When I get my Falcon or one to borrow we will have a look at what can be made for then.

The Targa Tasmania highlites was just on channel 10 here in Adelaide, it is so good to see that Toyota and Expensive Daewoo paid money to get on TV.....where did Holdens finnish!!!! (Both the Monaro's ran out of fuel....maybe I should be happy that a fuel gauge is not an option on Fords) No mention of the XR6T that went so well. It's the same story with the Australia Rally Championship coverage on channel 10, if you don't want to pay for it they will forget about you. Some of the front running rally teams had to pay over $60000 for the sesion for coverage, that's why you may think there is only 4 teams running LOL. So much for unbias coverage of sport on our ubute tv stations

Good to see that Ford can make a car that is fast and they don't have to worry about the build quality. Seems that if it had 14 inch wheel and drum brakes some people may still buy it!

I know I’m not a site sponsor but it may be of interest. One of my companies produce sub adaptor rings for Falcons The currant range what we do are as follows:- EA - EL Adaptor rings to take most 10 inch subs in place of the 8 inch one and we also do a 12 inch one but due to the contour of the rear underside of the parcel shelf it is not as good as the 10 inch one. (Only held on with 3 bolts not 4) AU Adaptor rings to take most 10 inch subs in place of the 8 inch one. No cutting or drilling required of material. These adaptors a CNC machined out of 10mm MDF. When I get a chance or my XR6T turns up I will design a set as I am not sure of the rear parcel shelf set up.

Well as other people have said to me when I did a post before ....and got shoot down in flames. What do you expect for $50000....well I expect a little more. Attention to detail does not have to cost more! And yes I know Merc spends 5 to 10 times more on R&D, but what you may find is 75% of the budget is spent on safety and styling and yes they do have a larger market than the Falcon AT PRESENT lol. As for everyone comparing the Falcon to a Merc or BMW (that you have to pay 2 to 3 time more), why don't you compare it to a Hyundai or Daowoe it might be closer. Fair enough I agree Ford have to build a car to a price so why don't Ford Australia use some (or if not more) of its resources form overseas e.g. Jag, Volvo etc as GM do? NO I am not knocking the Falcon....I have one on order, when you are evaluating a product to go into manufacturing, you don't say "hey it is going to cost us $50000 to build so lets just compare it to other products in this range”....what you should do is compare the product you are going to manufacture to the Hyundai’s and Merc’s....you may be surprised how cost effective an idea Merc has or stupid or great an idea Hyundai has....but you have to look outside of the square and I think this is something Ford have Forgot about in some areas. Last time I had a look at a Hyundai the boot carpet was cut all neatly around the edges, so why couldn’t Ford do it? Well that is my 2 cents worth.

Hello geea, All I was doing was stating my observations of what I have found. Maybe if I provide some answers to my own questions you may see where I am coming from. Question 1) Maybe Ford have started this rumor then selves as to not show up any of there V8’s and maybe there gearboxes can handle 700nm of torque and 450kw. I honestly believe no manufacturer would be so close to the limit. Question 2) Again would the make a car so close to overheating. Most new cars have more than sufficient air flow even that the opening may seem to small. Question 3) Is it only the XR6T that have this problem and could it be the way they are driven. Question 4) There is not $2090 worth of leather in the car. Question 5) The factory sunroof switch does look cheap, have a look at the current Expensive Daewoo By Design sunroof switch…it looks good. Question 6) $2.00 is not going to break the Ford Bank, it’s a bit like having an interior light in a car but the globe is extra……if it is there why not us it? Question 7) I have it in my ute and use it all the time plus it finishes the roof of nicely. Question The Forte gets a rear center arm rest why not the XR6T. The XR6 is based on a XT when it should be based on the Forte There is nothing stopping a customer specking up a XT with wheels, body kit, steering wheel, suspension and audio etc . I believe the GT is based on the XT (XR8) where the GTP is based on a Fairmont. Question 9) Why this maybe why the XR6T and XR8 ute is so close in price but not the sedans?LOL Question 10) This is a supplier issue Ford needs to address. Question 11) Who uses it and why, most cars go to 00.00Lt./100K when stopped. Question 12) Refer to 8 And why I brought a XR6T against the SS. Better dash design, felt better on the road, more options like brakes, had 17 inch wheels instead of 18's, not asgresive styling and wife could push the clutch to the floor.

Sorry XFwannaBA my comments were not directed at you....it was a fictional character thing. All I tried to point out was there are many great cars on the market and if someone buys a new car and there's was 4 to 5 years old or older there is huge differences in the cars of today. Australians should be proud of the cars we produce now, maybe not 4 to 5 years ago. However Australia car manufactures need to spend a little bit more on attention to detail and the differences in most Euro and Jap cars is the attention to detail and a lot of research into driver and passenger ergonomics (is this how you spell it!!!!)And comfort. I myself would prefer attention to detail, ergonomics (that word again) and comfort over harshment and little bit more power. Hopefully Ford follows this forum .....maybe the series 2 may be a brilliant car instead of a great car and as I said before all this car needs is a little attention to detail. I might be a bit hard on these few things but the companies I own are into manufacturing, engineering and wholesaling in a large range of different markets and as all ways we have to compete with over seas companies for our market share, the only way we can do this is by offering a better product but not necessarily a cheaper product that fulfils or exceeds the customer expectations. As a quick example one product we manufacture and sell is $9200 and we are $400 dearer then the opposition but we have no problems selling it because it is a better product in design, the quality is of a higher standard and attention to detail is spot on.( the funny thing is attention to detail does not cost us any more but it helps us sell our product) And the vinyl seat thing the front of the front and rear seats are in leather ( the parts where your body makes contact) and the side and head rests along with the bottom closest to the floor of the rear seats are in imitation leather. ( Holdens do the same I think with the SS)

Well hello everyone and yes I have a white manual XR6T on order with premium brakes, audio and sports steering wheel. I may of only posted 2 posts, but I have a right to voice my concerns just as much as the mext person and I can not remember anytghing about how you are suspose to do your first post. LOL The last post was to get people talking , to me it does not matter if it is Ford, Expensive Daewoo or something else, all I wanted to say was why would Ford make such a good car in the XR6T and scimp on the finner detail...you don't see BMW or Merc building a car and then thinking "hey is we don't do this we may save $10" I only keep cars for 2 years and then trade them in, the hardest decision this time was wheather to buy a VY SS or a XR6T and it had taken me 5 weeks to make the decision. When I read posts on this forum saying the XR6T is the best car ever made and there is nothing better and no disrespect but when the person posting it said his last car was a XF Falcon you have to wonder! My wifes car was a 18 month old Magna VRX limited with the lot ( sunroof,5spd tiptronic, leather and a good stereo) and this is what we traded on the XR6T. My car is a silver 8 month old XR6 ute and before that it was a 2 year old falcon ute. Along with these 2 vehicles we also have a range other vehicles from Toyota and Ford ( Yes we are self employed). And Not forgetting the ST205 GT4 Celica club car aswell. All I wanted to say was Ford has produced a great car in the XR6T but for $50000 you would expect a little bit more attention to detail. One member stated there is a lot of differance between a Falcon XT and a XR6T for sure there is but is it $20000 better? To Mercturbo sure there ar 20 things on many car but when you pay $50000 for a car a nother $500 to tidy it up is small play. And to some of the other forum posters yes the XR6T is a great car but when you compare it to other cars in the price range it has to make you wonder sometimes is it worth having a car that can do the 1/4 mile 0.5 to 1 seconds faster then a car that is $10000 cheaper ? Sorry if I have put some people out but what I have said is fact and if I was to rubbish a car it would not be a Falcon. By the way what happens next year when a Holden, Mitsubishi , Toyota or Volvo win a lot of awards, does that make then any better the the Ford....NO! Again sorry if I have put anyone out bu this.

Just some questions the group may be able to answer? 1) Is the XR6T manual gear box that weak or are Ford scaring owners into thinking there is a problem......is it Ford don't want owner having turbo 6 cylinder cars producing over 300Kw's and yet stiil have 8 cylinder owner paying a premium for V8 LESS THEN 300Kw POWER!......could it be marketing. ( reminds me of the WRX day) 2) Regarding the SS cold air induction.........Would Ford make a car that is so close to the edge of reliability (do not fit oil coolers as it will over heat).......have we all purchased a car the we can only drive if the temp. is cool.....have to watch the nightly new for the weather ....if it to hot we may not be able to take the XR6T tomorrow. 3) If they did all this testing for this, that and every thing else.......WHY did the forget about the disc rotor problem or WHY wasn't it picked up in all the hard testing? 4) Why do you pay a premium for leather interior and you get half viynl.....Isn't viynl for taxis? 5) Why does the factory sunroof look like it has been fitted by a cheap aftermarket pop up el cheapo sunroof company (all good sunroof company do a better job)......the BLACK switch looks like it has just been put there ( hey man whats this part...mmmm I think its that switch thing for the roof dude.....what should we do with it.......oh I don't know put it some where and hurry up lunch is in 5 minutes.) at least Holdens puts it in a nice sunglass/map light holder. 6) Why arn't globes fitted in the foot wells on cars with premium sound....doesn't it make more sence to charge the customer $902 for premium sound in stead of $900 and allow $2 more for two lights? 7) Why arn't the sunglass holder offered as an option in the range? Why do you pay a premium price for the XR6T and only get a base model Falcon with a fast engine? 9) Why do XR8's get lighted switch gear for the windows and "A" pillar tweeters with the standard audio system? 10) Why is the edges of the boot floor mat cut rough? 11) Why have a function in the trip computer telling you how may litres per hour you have used....(does this stem back to Fords stationary engine days when it was useful)? 12) No center arm rest? 13) why don't they have hight adjustable electric antennas as standard with premium sound?.....OPPS that's the Commodore ....wrong forum Well that's about it ......................

We had the same question when we ordered or XR6T. Found out the ford leather is not all leather, leather inserts on the front of the seats and vinyl on the rest. Herrod do a seat kit with I think would be very good, but he would not supply it direct to us at rrp even that we would organise the car to be droped of the him in Melbourne before comming to Adelaide, we had to go through his dealer here in Adelaide. Unfortanatly the dealer lost the sale due to price of the car and did not seen to interested in suppling it to us.....said something like we make no money out of the Herrod gear.....we offer it to OUR CUSTOMERS if they buy a vehicle from us. We are using a respected trimmer here in Adelaide to do it when the car arrives....unless the dealer and herrod have a change of heart....guess that is what happens when you set up one dealer and one dealer only to sell your stuff!
