17/03/04 12:12 PM17/03/04 12:12 PM #11 So first of all. Only go with Brant if your car is not brand new cause chances are it won't work.and second who has an aftermarket alarm system in thier car and what brand/costs? I'm in the market for one now.Well either they have changed their product line or you're speaking to the wrong person, because I have a BRANT alarm installed in my T. I'm not sure if the standard FORD immobiliser is retained, but it doesn't bother me, as the BRANT alarm has a 3 pt immobiliser. The only hiccup with the installation was that once alarmed, the alarm would go off after 20mins. This was isolated to the boot circuit sending a signal to turn off the boot light (just in case the boot was left open). A couple of diodes fixed that problem.I am from Sydney. Not sure where you are from, but if you're not from Sydney, get the BRANT people to call the guys in Sydney because they have installed it in my T and the installer said they have done several BA XR8s and GTs as well.CheersRob
17/03/04 01:54 PM17/03/04 01:54 PM #12 What's wrong with the Ford alarm? As genebaby said, there are no shock/movement/glass-break sensors on the Ford alarm. I've also looked and discovered that it has coloured wires, not black wires. When I ordered my car, I just assumed that the Ford alarm would have these features. I'll know better next time.
17/03/04 02:21 PM17/03/04 02:21 PM #13 G'day Mattson,So first of all. Only go with Brant if your car is not brand new cause chances are it won't work.and second who has an aftermarket alarm system in thier car and what brand/costs? I'm in the market for one nowI am also in Sydney and I have a Brant Alarm / Immobiliser in my Aug '03 XR6 Turbo. This was the keypad style one, very similar to the ones fitted to the WRX's.This was installed by Brant's mobile service, and works in conjunction with the standard Ford Immobiliser, and the Alarm upgrade that I purchased with the car from Ford also works.I have also recently fitted a Turbo Timer which works perfectly along with the items mentioned above. If you are not happy I suggest that you ring Brant In Sydney and ask to speak with Nick. When I delt with him he was more than helpful, and as has been mentioned above brant has done my car and ROBiiE, as well as the Managing Directors personal XR6 turbo from Brant. Having been through the dissapointment of having a supplied product not performing to the correct standard, I can understand your frustration, all the best getting it sorted out.Cameron
17/03/04 11:00 PM17/03/04 11:00 PM #14 Author Cam, called brant, spoke to Dennis who had only two weeks earlier told me that they fit dozens of alarms to xr's which changed to, no we've only fitted one or two turbos and they were the earlier model (my car is a feb 04 build) thier QLD installer says that he's never done one and they apperently use a different system for the ones used in sydney to the ones used in QLD as they need to interact with quicktrak etc so I don't knowI've got the instructions that brant faxed the installed (came through my work fax) and I'd be warey of installing it too with comments like this in the instructions:1 DO NOT attempt to test any wires that are twisted as they are'CAN' databus control wires and if testing is attemtped major damage will occur to the control units.2 After removal of the centre dash audio unit inspect the bulkhead plug on the body behind the unit to ensure the white centre section has extended and the upper and lower cam locks have released. If these are not in thier respective positions when the unit is reinstalled the pins in the mating plug on the rear of the uni will be damaged and functions in the vehicle will not operator and/or the vehicle will not start or run!scary... I think I'll just leave fords world class system in place and buy a recumbant cycle instead!
18/03/04 01:25 AM18/03/04 01:25 AM #15 G'day Mattson,Interesting indeed! I'm not sure what differences if any would exist between an AUg '03 build and your Feb '04 but Im pretty sure that they didn't actually remove my ICC to install the version of the Brant I chose.Either way, something funny is going on as I have a Brant Alarm and it all works perfectly ! Must be one of those things that makes you Also I would have thought that if Brant has those warnings, then any other Alarm manufacturer should in theory at least have the same problem, don't touch this it might break or don't unplug this it won't start! Good LuckCameron
18/03/04 01:43 AM18/03/04 01:43 AM #16 here in melbourne, I am an agent for both Mongoose & Flashpoint/pirahna alarms. They both have products that suit the XR & I actually installed the flashpoint one on my own XR6t ute with no real problems. In response to the wheel stealing thing, I think a tilt sensor is a good solution, it sets the alarm off when the car is moved 6 degrees from the angle at which the alarm was armed. Is easily wired in to any alarm system. As far as the problems your installers have had, all I can think of is that he did not have the information required, the BA installation is not particlarly difficult but can be hard if you dont have any help, most most suppliers provide info to their installers. The boot trigger problme is one that most installers know about now, but when they first came out, we found out the hard way, but is an easily solved problem. Also, just out of interest, flashpoint installation requires removal of the ICC but the mongoose one does not & states not to remove it. They are both integrated into the original system in different ways, & this is why the different installation process, but the ICC is really easy to remove anyway.Any questions, feel free to contact me.
