Over heating

Great day yesterday, managed to drive over a kerb at the end of a park and damaged the right front spoiler, thought F&@$%~ etc and carried on.

 

May not be related as I drove around a bit after that, then driving to a meeting and notice the temp gauge rising, got to about 2-3 mm of halfway, normally sits down around a quarter. Put the heater on and got it parked without rising any further. About a 20-25 min trip.

 

Came back 2 hours later, having managed to find 2 litres of water in the city, checked coolant level and it took about 1.25 litres. Started and drove home carefully and almost non stop. Slowed down (from 55 to 35) in traffic and noticed the temp start to climb straight away, although only marginally this time.

 

Got home, sat in driveway and watched, temp climb back near half and no fans came on. 

 

I can't see any damage from the parking kerb, so maybe coincidence? So I maybe have a slow leak and dud fans? Do I start by replacing the fuse? Or just give up and take it to the local garage?

Sorry, tried editing this, the fans are coming on, with the ac, but I'm presuming not when the temp starts to climb.

 

Is there a switch that flicks them on? Relay?

So, up to temp, no fans, checked fuse and relays (swapped out the light relay), nothing, switch act on and the fans come on, temp comes down, so assume a temp switch somewhere?
