Hello everyone. First post on XR6 Turbo, I joined yesterday to start doing my research before I get myself one of Fords finest.

Upon looking around, and as a matter of personal interest I have noticed that there are people looking to go in both directions with trans conversions (auto to manual, manual to auto). I was wondering how difficult it would be to get people together and do a swap? Surely it wouldn't be too much more difficult than getting the 2 cars in the same place at the same time and swapping the neccessary hardware over. Even if done by a mechanic the cost would just be in hrs, and not in parts. Has anyone tried this, would it work?

Cheers, Matt

Buy the right trans in the 1st place and you would never have to worry about it.

There's more Manual to Auto changes than the other way around.

If there is any chance you want to buy a car and put big power through it with the possibility of dragging it a bit simply DONT buy a manual.

But if you only ever have plans of doing some circuit days and stuff and you don;t sit in traffic everyday then buy a manual.

Fair enough. I do prefer a manual, just because I prefer them to an auto but they are a little thinner on the ground than the autos. And for me a manual G6E Turbo would be the perfect car (just my preference). Maybe will have to take a ZF for a drive and see if it changes my mind :)

Mate I think it is a fair enough question, two cars for whatever reason wanting to swap transmissions. I wouldn't want to be the person doing the labour that's for sure.

From what I understand the ZF will be the most difficult to swap into a manual or older 4spd car.. Otherwise I would be all over it myself. I'm also looking into 6spd manual conversion for my 4spd auto dunga but the stars and galaxies will have to align for that to ever happen. Like for example a plane crashes next to my house and on board is a half cut BF 6 spd manual and an unconscious transmission mechanic in the front seat.

Anyway let us know how you get on, for me the whole concept is only worthwhile for a gem of a car that just happens to have the wrong tranny.
