Diff Problems

I picked up my XR6T 7 days ago, within the first 4 days I took the car back to the dealer because of a noisy diff when the car is holding 90-95km/h.

the dealer checked it out for me and said the noise will go away after the bearings wear in, if not they will replace the diff at the 15000 service.

my question is: did any one out there notice a noisy diff that fixed it self, or is the dealer just pulling my chain.

another reason I took the car back was a vibration at same speeds, I think the two were related, diff out of allignment or something. any thoughts?

There is a slight vibration that comes through the seats of the turbs above about 80km/h. Dealer told me it would go away as the drive line loosened up, if it didn't, they would check all that at the 15K service.

I have the very same diff whine. Starts at 80kph and is the worst at 95kph.

I have done 26,000kms and it's not getting any better so I'll get it checked at the 30,000km service. I do expect the first answer to be that it is normal though.

Mine gets a really bad whine but I only notice it when my wife is in the car with me

Seriously though, I don't hear any whines, vibrations or the like in my T. I think the dealer is having a lend of you and doesn't want to do the work until the 15K mark. BTW, to my knowledge, bearings don't 'wear in'.... well, not at least until they have done about 300,000 k and it is called 'wear out'. The gear teeth may become a little less noisy as they 'bed in' but in a modern car, the machining is pretty good and it should not be noisy from the start.

I get an exhaust drone at about 115kph but it is only slight and not annoying. I find that most noises can be removed by increasing speed to about 220kph at which stage the screaming of passengers overtakes road noise etc.

Take it back to the dealer and demand action, particularly if it is a vibration.

you're entitled to a 3,000k service. Sounds like she's outta wack, there's a balancing machine, but your dealer will most likely need prior notice to make sure the machine is available when you have your 3kservice.
