hello.

wondering if anyone can help me?

I just bought an xr8. I know this isnt the place for it but I needed some advice.

im having problems with my temperature and idle.

say I take my car for a drive, warm it up as usual ect. if I pull over and turm my car off for say 1 or 2 or more mins, then turn my car back on, my temp gauge will be right back down to cold and my idle goes crazy warming up again. then after say 20 secs or something my temp will go to normal and the car goes normal again.

theres a problem somewhere that my temp reading isnt right.. can anyone help??

thanks heaps

no the thermostat staying open would only cause it to take ages to warm up from stone cold. it sounds like a dodgey coolant temp sensor, as there is no way the car is cooling down in 2 mins, the sensor could well be the problem as it would be telling the ecu that the car is cold (when its not) and would make it run rich (modern cars dont have a "choke" any more they just run rich at idel to help them warm up quicker) and that would explain why it runs like crap when ideling. its that or a ecu fault or maby a bad earth/open circuiting on the sensor. if you have a multimeter you can check if the sensor is at fault or not, or get a garage to check it for you. I doubt a non genuine one would be expencive.

hope this helps
