How close does it get the desired boost? Not sure what you mean by how often.

It ends up over the desired boost.

To give you an idea. This is WOT it in second gear. EDIT: There is actually a dip in there - this was traction control kicking in, but me keeping it planted.

Tobey your car is tuned in open loop so it runs off the wastegate DC table only. You can confirm this by logging the proportional gain under 'turbocharger' and/or export the log to .csv and you should notice for particular RPM's the wastegate figure is the same. If the wastegate dc is variable at say 4000rpm you know the PI system is active. FORDPSI change your normaliser table for the X axis so it starts at 2000rpm so you have more rpm breakpoints when the car is on boost. It will give more precise feed fwd control for the PI system.

Tobey you have a desired boost of 55. That's 27psi. I have NFI why a tuner would do that! Ignore desired boost in your case and use the map - bap method for determining you boost curve.

It looks like you are subtracting bap from desired boost? With your car tuned in open loop, the desired boost table in not active, don't even bother logging it. You can see the boost spike from where u change gear. Zf right? I cant view sigs on the iPhone.

Edit spelling!

Will do thanks again!

Tobey has your turbo been ported and had a larger actuator fitted? Im assuming it has.

Yea im calculating the desired boost as (DB-29.59)/2.036 Which gives a figure that seems right.

The boost spike isnt changing gear, that is traction control killing the revs at ~5000rpm, then it picking back up again to 5700rpm. Its 6 speed manual and I didnt get out of second...

Turbo is stock. My race tune has a peak of 18psi at about 3000rpm.

problem is I dont have my wastegate done, so I can see how much its struggling to maintain the boost.

What's the difference between closed and open loop? Pro's cons?

Nope both stock... It is however doing well to hold it at 14psi at 5700rpm...

EDIT: keep in mind, this is only second gear. I think there would be a dramatic difference in third and fourth (which I cant test because of slipping clutch)...

You subtract bap from map, NOT bap from desired. Well it's definately in open loop. pros of closed loop are many. Gets on boost quicker in lower gears and won't overboost in high gears (5th etc). Reason is the PI control modifies the duty cycle to match the desired boost, so in low gears it's adding duty and in 5th and 6th it's removing duty cycle to prevent over boost. End result, consistent boost across all gears and loads. A big exhaust and no porting is bad news on the street. Might make a pretty graph on the dyno but hit 5th an watch boost rise and afr's lean. Nothing wrong with open loop IF the setup is good an your not flogging it in 5th or 6th.
