Humming Noise On 1St Gear

Hey guys,

I just got an XR6T 4spd auto.

The first gear makes a light humming like noise from the gearbox.

once it changes into 2nd its fine from there.

is this normal or a common problem?

any info will help.

Its normal, the hum changes pitch as the revs rise, and then 2nd gear engages and there is no more hum, or when you change down from 2nd to 1st and you get the hum from high pitch to low pitch.

a mechanic said that its probably my bearings for the first gear.

and the quote was pretty steep.

how to people usually go about this problem? and how common is it

Mate, My 03 ba does the same thing, it is the plantery gears whining, not much you can do about it, unless you get the trans rebuilt with the AU planterys, the BA ones are not the best, heard story's of them being replaced and starting to whine again not long after.

They whine due the curvature of the gear mating faces in the planetaries. They all do it, some more than others.

My rebuilt box with AU Cryoe'd planetaries did it less than when new with BA ones, but they have gotten slightly louder with k's.

Just worry about crunching noises!

Yes, stop driving like a little girl in first gear. But thrash in moderation, we don't want to have you back here in a month asking about rebuilds.
