Hey, I've been lurking around here for a bit and now I'm getting closer to taking the jump and actually buying a ute and I'm pretty sold on the XR.....

I have had a bit of a look at one near by at a stealership, its an 04 BA MK2 6 speed manual in shockwave has a hardlid, typhoon front bar, aftermarket FMIC that looks a lot like the rapid v2.0 kit, 19 inch rims. It has 100,000k's on it.

I guess I have a few questions:

1. What would you consider a reasonable price for it? I'm more than happy to low ball the sh*t out of them, they have 23,990 on it.....

2. Apart from the FMIC how can I identify if it has been tuned or had any other mods? The dealer couldnt tell me if its had a tune or if it has any further mods which has put me off a bit......

3. should I look for something with less K's?

Any other tips when looking for one of these cars? I want to have all bases covered I can't handle the thought of getting ripped off haha.

Your help will be appreciated!

shock wave have had a lot of probs with the paint in that year your looking at , there's a whole thread on here about it , if it looks modified and you can't get it's history stay away .

and if you are keen on it ,04 100k kms not worth more than 18k at the most

ahhh! that's good info.. I remember seeing something about the paint issues but forgot all about that! No history of the modifications did make me think to myself 'that can't be good'.

sounds like I should keep looking!

yeah wouldn't buy modded car from a dealer ,

it's ok to buy modded but you need to know who has done the work etc , buy it privatly and have all the paper work
