Vibrations

Not sure if I have a problem with my Bird, so just finding out what all your experiences are.

Went down to Jindabyne on the weekend and going both ways I had constant vibration and "jiggling" through the floor and steering at highway speed. I.e. 100kmh plus

While this seemed to vary depending on the surface I find it very irritating.

Its been like this since new and I have had the wheels balanced, but it continues.

Could it just be the sports orientation of the suspension that transmits the vibration from the roads, or do you think its something more sinister?

And 10 to 1 it's not your wheel balance that is causing it. I bet it's the front rotors!

Mine's booked in AGAIN on Friday, hope the car holds it together until then. It's getting REALLY BAD!

just under 20,000. Rotors replaced twice. The 2nd pair need their SECOND machining.

Nothing to do with the rotors, or wheel balancing...

I have the same prob since new.. It started at 90km's, now even when idling I can feel it.

One dealer reckons its the tail shaft (needs balancing), It's in all week this week, I'll let you know how I go.

Do you have headlight protectors and boot protector?

If so it could be theses. Mine cuts inat 120kms and earlier if there is a cross wind.

My dealer just called and said they fixed it by doing a wheel balance.

I'm hopeful but at the same time a bit sceptical...I'll let you know after I take him for a spin.

I got mine balanced when I first reported the vibration but no joy.

Wonder though whether they just did the fronts?

I'd imagine that if the back ones were out of balance they could cause some vibration at speed as well.

Got it booked in tomorrow, so hopefully its nothing major.

I have a very slight vibration sometimes but only when the car is cold, it goes away completely after a few minutes of driving and does not return until left overnight or something then it may start again, this could be the cold tyre thing as someone suggested the tyres possibly develop slight flat spots when cold but are ok when warm. this explanation fits mine anyway, maybe these new silica tyres.

Mine was easy...

It was the wheel balance..the rears were out by 100 grams.

It is all fixed now, and it's better than it was when new :D

Apart from how clean it is..

You may have the tailshaft issue, get it checked out.

Suggestion

If feasible, try or buy a set of tyres made in Japan or Europe - then get quality balance finished off with on car balance on fronts.

Result - no more tears! Worked for me, as posted on previous thread.

And the first night I drove my T the vibration thru the floor was really ugly!!

Even Mrs zeke and zeke jr thought it was really bad. Even after a balance, the vibes remained. I swapped the wheels/tyres with Mrs zeke's XT with the alloys and Jap Dunlops for a test and the vibration transferred from one car to the other! For the past 20 years, I have had no joy in balancing Aussie-made tyres on a wide range of cars and nothing has changed.

But then I do a lot of freeway driving and I'm very fussy about wheel balance and vibrations.
