03' Ba 4spd

Hi guys, ok so just got home tonight after taking the misus out to dinner and then cafe'.

Decided to take the blue sedan as it need a fill up. Anyway, on the way home I decided to filck it over to sport adaptive, but then noticed the 'D' on the dash didnt change. Then I noticed that the gear box would not allow me to manually select gears!!

It simply stayed in 'D' on the dash and drove as such.

This freaked me out a bit, as you can appreciate. Is the box shagged?? The last service was at 90K's, it is now up to 120K's.

I would appreciate any feedback and ideas.

sounds like a glitch in the software, rather then the gearbox itself, was it still changing gears as it should in drive?

If the gearbox is fuct, I have a 4spd auto out of my futura that came out when the manual went in, that you can have cheap..

I advise trying a few more times though, get in the car, switch over to performance, then back to drive, repeat a few times over the course of the drive, just make sure it's not just a bad contact in the shifter

could be. Something I forgot to add was that the battery light came on whilst driving normally as well. It stayed on for about 10seconds then went out. No unusual feel from the car though.

The gear box still changes gears beautifully in 'D' auto mode.

Software Glitch then mate. Sounds like there is a problem with the programming...

If it is changing gears smoothly and without problem, then I would not be so concerned. Problems changing gears - Now that's a BIG problem!

Has it been flashed? Could be an ECU problem? Talk to your tuner if you have one, otherwise you may have to talk to ford...

My 2006 BF XR6 would only drive in D and P. It would not allow me to manually change gears. I sold it before I got it sorted, but sounds like a similar problem to yours...

yeah it has a custom tune by CV performance.

ill flash it back to stock and see if that helps.

Firstly,

Have you done any mods that would prevent you from putting it back to stock? Don't quote me, but can you put the car back to stock if you have bigger injectors, full exhaust etc?

It may pay to call your tuner and ask if that's alright to do first.

I can with my car as I only have a cat-back exhaust and CAI.

went down to the car this morning and started it up.

the box seems to be working perfectly now. it selected 'PEF' and started selecting gears as well. weird.

yeah very possibly just the contacts needed to be roughed up a bit, if it's not used regularly, that's probably all it was.

When my car was an auto I used it quite regularly without any issues..

Hopefully the problem is now sorted permanently!

NVT: the auto was working fine when it came out. I pulled it out to convert to manual (best thing I ever did). The box has been sitting collecting dust for about a year now and it's just taking up space, so if anyone wants it, it's available for $700.

The box had a full service and flush about 3-5000km before I converted it (maybe less)
