25/08/08 10:17 AM25/08/08 10:17 AM #11 I've heard that some people don't end up doing the actuator and they are still able to maintain constant boost levels. If your chasing like 340-350rwkw on like 12psi or whatever (not sure how much is needed), with a full intake/intercooler/plenum kit, would the actuator/wastegate mod be required still you think? Is it something I could do at home, or best left to the tuning shop when the car goes in for its re-tune?If you're capping boost at 12 psi then yeah you maybe ok, but 340 or 350rwkw's on 12 psi.....that's not common, more like 14 psi minimum on a good setup and without the wastgate modified you're likely to be spiking to 17 or 18 psi. A boost spike is ok anyway...I run 15 - 16 psi tapering to 13psi, I couldn't care less about it to be honest!

Wastegate mod is not essential but recommended if you want solid boost control (I.e. no spike and taper). Considering you have a BF with the stronger F6 rods and valve springs my advice would be.....ok this will be a shock.......hold off fitting the kit until you can afford getting a dump pipe/cat and external wastegate with wastegate pipe plumbed back into the dump. That would be the ideal situation. The tightar$e way is to just weld in a 3" catco cat and remove the centre pipes and not even touch the wastegate. You can then tune it to run about 12 psi in the top end and still crack 330rwkw's.

Would that be able to hold a steady boost you think? Edited 26/08/08 07:39 AM26/08/08 07:39 AM by XF Falcon
27/08/08 07:46 AM27/08/08 07:46 AM #15 I have this done and it sounds ok. I might be on the cruise on Sun so you maybe able to have a listen then :-) You're limited to 330ish kw's so the exhaust should be ok in terms of flow but a big dump is ideal. Wastegate port is apparently required along with the actuator for flat line boost. With just the actuator itself you still may get a spike....but I'm not sure about that. You need to take the turbs off to do the actuator anyway. How big will your intake be? Is is under battery? With the bigger intake you may have a stronger need for the wastegate mods.
