18/04/08 01:03 AM18/04/08 01:03 AM #1 I have a 03 BA XR6T with leather seats. A few weeks ago I felt a crack in the backrest of the front drivers seat. Then every time I went around the corner one side of the backrest would lift up a the join from the back to the base. A quick inspection revealed that I had snapped the metal frame of the back rest just aove the pivot point. I have been to fraud but they keep saying like 600-800 dollars for the frame and then I would have to have an upholsterer remove the leather and apply it to the new frame. I have a few other options. Maybe remove the leather and have the frame welded. Can someone tell me if the standard BA model has the same frame in the seats. This may be another option to buy an oldseat from a wrecker and have the leather changed over.If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I am worried that if I do not get it fixed soon that the other side will break. This is the first ford I have owned. I am really impressed with the power and the reliability of the engine and components so far. Its a pity that the inside of the car is not up to the same standard. P.S my heater has just stopped working as well and apparently that is not an easy fix for a vehicle out of warranty. Thanks Brendan
18/04/08 01:14 AM18/04/08 01:14 AM #2 it is an easy fix , you just have to remove the seat, the spot weld has broken, (POS welds). I retacked it with a bit more weld and it is all good now, just remove the seat from the car first unzip the lining and at the bottom of the seat and it will expose the area, you can either retack it or drill thru the plate and put a nut and bolt thru the hole. Its easy once you see it with lining out of the way. Cant help with the heater more info required.pete
18/04/08 01:29 AM18/04/08 01:29 AM #3 Author Is the lining easy to remove from the seat. I can see where the break is and I looks as if it has snapped and not just come apart. I will have to have a better look with the leather off. If anyone can tell me how to remove the seat lining would be much appreciated. My heater problem is that it simply will not work I found another post saying that the weakcontrol arm tends to break and this is the main cause of the problem. Thanks alotBrendan
18/04/08 02:04 AM18/04/08 02:04 AM #4 Unbolt the seat from the car undo you seat wiring plug/jacks, turn the seat upside down out of the car remove the screws that hold the plastic backing plate to the rear of the seat, remove the backing plate and from memory you should be able see the zipper from there, zip it open and it will expose the metal bracket. hope this helps.pete
