Hi guys,

I am looking to get in on the mal woods op. 3 clutch group buy, and was wondering if anyone could help me with my decision on whether or not the alloy fly upgrade is worth the extra $200.

I have an May 06 BF and will be looking to get to the low to mid 300's soonish. It will not be a drag or track car(although may make a visit or two to the track just for fun).

I understand that they alloy for a freer reving engine, but are there any other advantages I should know about?

Any disadvantages? What is their lifespan and reliability like compared to the billet steel one the kit comes with?

Also can anybody who has one provide any feedback as to how they drive and any issues that may arrise from them?

Thanks

Chris :nono:

Hey Goobz

I've always used Yella Terra lightened flywheel (not sure if they make one for the BA etc)

http://www.yellaterra.com.au/products/car-...l/flywheels.cfm

Also try Race Brakes in Wetherill Park for a clutch

From past experiences I've found that the alloy flywheel does wear quicker depends on your driving style or type of clutch (paddle v fullface , ceramic v organic ) but your motor will rev sweeter and quicker with a lightened flywheel.

A fullface organic clutch will be easier on you flywheel

If your using a T56, get a short shifter from Harrop you won't beleive the difference

disadvantage is that you loose a little bit of low down torque

its not bad but you do notice it when taking off at trafic lights on hills ect

The MWA Alloy flywheel does help with quicker throttle response, these are machined from premium quality Alloy billets and a Steel running surface is added for long term durability.

We have sold a lot of these flywheels and have not experianced any reliability issues. Mal Wood

I had an alloy flywheel with a steel ring gear on my car for a while. Ended up spinning the ring gear on the flywheel. It was fine when I parked it at night, next morning awful sound when I tried to start the car.

Im back to a steel flywheel, def wont get that problem again.

I may as well name them, felt I got ripped off on the replacement deal.

It was an extreme clutch flywheel package.

I originally blew up the original ford clutch, being silly of course.

Put an extreme kit in. At the start it rattled, probably bent clutch finger and smelt of burning clutch. I just thought it was from the previous clutch crap floating around. No more than 7 weeks driving later, I couldnt start my car. They use button head screws to secure the ring gear to the wheel, so obviously they wouldnt hang on. Also the clutch was rooted as well, lots of wear in strange places. I swear I didnt give this one a hard time, I was still letting it settle in.

Alot of time without a car, and a very sore hip pocket finally got my car back on the road.

The first clutch blew just before christmas, which made it hard without wheels over that break, and of course the second one had to go just before easter. I dont think ill drive my car for the whole of october just to make sure I got wheels for melb cup weekend!
