Im soon to be investing in a set of rims for my BA XR6 Turbo. I like the 20's but Im willing to settle for 19's if there are too many issues.

I am wondering about the legalities of 20's for insurance and defects?

I also wondering how they go for clearance. My car is lowered 1.5inch with lovells. Does anyone get scrubbing issues, eg. 5 people in car?

Thanks for any help

With regard to your legality question - the only way is to sight the policy legislation yourself as there are many contradictory opinions around. My understanding is that 'legal' is up to 2 inches over standard. The standard for an XR6T is 17, thus 19 would appear to be a safe limit - the cost of decent tyres once you get this large mitigates too. I found 18s to provide the best balance between size and affordable decent rubber - using Michy PP2s in 18s at $350 a corner.

Good luck,

I just went out and had a look at the "tyre placard" and it states 17" and 18" optional. So do you go off the 17" or 18" as the point you can go 2" bigger?

The 2 inch rule is not true ,it is the new wheel must not exceed the overall sircumfrence of the standed wheel by 15mm.

So e.g. if the overall hight was 652 you could only go up to 667, the other thing they get you for is the load baring capacity which I cant rember off the top of my head.

Actually, they go by the largest available tyre and rim combination for that model, regardless of whether it's standard or optional.

With BAs, you'd have to run 245/30R20 (licorice strips) if they fit or 225/35R20. The only other thing that'll fit (won't be legal) is a small-mould 235/35R20.

Are you after performance or just the fully sik look?

The 245 30 dont pass the load baring capacity only the 35 profile will pass, I have had count less debates with TMU about that matter but as soon as it gos to VIC roads for the inspection I pass as its all to standed.

So I know what im talking about weather you choose to belive me or not.

There is a forum you can get which backs my statement up from VIC roads.

I have the mk2 19inch gt wheels on mine with super low kings on the front, it does rub depending on the road surface if I do a full u turn, but other than that its fine. tyres are 245/35zr19

As u know I have 20s on mine. Kings SSL all round. 5 people, full tank of fuel and never has it scrubbed. I thought we were talking about that on Saturday night ??

Anyways, the only down side I would have to add is that the 20s slow it down a bit, but that lets the competition catch up :stupid:

I'm not talking about load ratings at all, only about the rolling diameter. Load ratings can vary from tyre to tyre.
