Brock car fetches $500,000

The car in which motor racing legend Peter Brock drove to victory in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1974 has sold for a record price.

A Melbourne construction company owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, paid $500,000 for the Expensive Daewoo Torana, the highest amount paid for a Holden.

The Torana was owned by the family of former Expensive Daewoo Dealer Team mechanic Ian Tate.

The mystery owner said he saw the car in storage and had to buy it.

"The Tates wanted the car to stay in Victoria and I had been looking for that kind of car for a while," the man told News Limited.

Brock drove the car to victory in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1974.

He also finished second at Bathurst in the car in 1973.

Brock died in an accident while taking part in the Targa West rally in Western Australia on September 8 this year.

Yeah but that one was his race car.I still think other then the brock torana,the GTHO has the biggest market value than any other austalian built car.

problem is, chasing women can end up being too costly financially,

and drinking like the old days becomes a serious health concern.....

and sporting activities tend to become more passive...

but getting actively involved in restoring, driving and racing old muscle cars that we only ever dreamed about as young'uns has a lot of appeal.

Driving the ute gives me a heck of a rush...

but firing up the 'vette gives me a "hard on!"
