My tips for a successful private sale:

1. Make your asking price close to what you want and don't put "ono" eg $26k or $27k in your case

2. Never be in a hurry.

3. Advertise heavily online and in papers / trading posts and use picture ads wherever possible. There's a reason why dealers always use pictures.

4. Always be totally honest. Point out scratches and faults. Tell them the car was modded. Encourage mechanical inspections. People respect this and trust you, making your car more attractive than a dealer bought one.

5. Always go with any test driver and check their licence first.

Good luck!

Mark

:sleepystuff: I agree with all the above, but keep in mind this is just a hypothetical at the moment as I have no real interest in selling just yet.

edit: I just noticed a vote for 28-30k, so to who ever that was: want the car? :sleepystuff:

I think you'll get less than 25,000 but the result would be closer to your 25, than his guess of 20, once you add in your bit and pieces you may broach that magic mark.

I didn't think so many people would rate it at under 25k... looks like the 23k I got offered for a trade in was good. If I were to sell it, there's now way I'd part with it for anything less then 25k-27k, just wouldn't be worth it otherwise.

25k - 26k sounds about right if you sell it stock. I purchased mine a few months ago for just over 30k with 28k on the clock and 3 and 1/2 years warranty from a dealer in newcastle. It was a bad experience though and I would consider buying my next T privately. Two weeks later prices dropped between 2 and 5k at the exact same dealer.

It hurts to think that when you buy these new at around $43k that after 4 years with interest repayments it would have cost you around $50k, add the cost of mods and you are close to $55k. I would not even bother selling it for $18k I would just keep it (that's if it will even get $18K). Lucky my car is used for about 80% work so I can claim the cost of running it, and share the cost with the Tax man. If I could go back 2 years I would have held out for a year and got BA Mk1 second hand for $25K and saved a bit of cash.. I think I might wait to the Terriorty is a few years old and get myself one cheap as a private sale.... lucky its not a HSV GTS, new 100k and VE is only $80k, this will really stuff resale value.
