I'm new here, and no I don't own a Typhoon (yet - give me a few weeks :kissmy: ).

I've heard how the ZF gearbox has made the auto BF Typhoon a considerably faster car than the manual is, both on the dragstrip and 0-100. I don't know much about having/driving a performance auto though...

Those of you that have taken them to the dragstrip, how are you guys launching your auto transmission Typhoons? Are you doing the gearchanges or just putting it into perf mode and letting the gearbox handle it? Traction control off I am assuming and just trying to control any wheelspin?

I resemble that remark!! :innocent:

Seriously though I have tried both changing manually and sports auto mode and found the later to be be far superior.

In manual mode it is near impossible to know precisely when to upshift as the cutout comes in quite quickly at the end of the rev range.

A word of advice though, due to the transmissions' ability to learn your driving style it is best to drive it hard prior to any performance test to ensure it has 'learned' to give you the full potential available.

The best time I could get changing manually was 13.4 sec, but in sports mode 13.06. I was going out to the drags to try and break into the 12's tonight but the event was rained out.

I have found stalling it up to between 1800 and 2000 revs is as much as it will handle before you lose traction.

Good luck

Cheers

Although I dont have the upmarket machine I have the 6 speed auto and you cant change better than the perf mode. Just what cooltint says does the job...

cheers and welcome to the madness

No purchase yet but I have decided a Typhoon is what I MUST have. :spoton:

Still trying to work out whether I want to pick up one of the ex-demo BA2 manuals I have seen (at a very good price) or go for a more expensive (but probably better) BF auto. I drive a manual XR6 (EF2) currently (not in the same class I know ;) ) and do enjoy the manual drive but being able to control the auto makes up for a lot of that.

BTW, on the 0-100 times Autocar in NZ (yep, I'm a kiwi) did a comparison on four hot sedans representing Japan, US, Europe and Australia. The Typhoon was their pick as representative for Australia (Subaru WRX STI, Chrysler 300C SRT8 and Audi RS4 being the others). They managed to get 5.35s 0-100 and 2.94s 80-120 times out of their auto BF Typhoon test car.

The Typhoon came 3rd behind the RS4 and Subaru btw - not being AWD made it hard to keep up with those two.

When I raced my cuzins F6 auto, I stalled second gear then wacked it back into first as I took off and got those extra 200-250 revs off the line and ran a 12.7 108 mph, Stock as a rock, even has the white ford airfilter. Driving it in performance mode with no second gear stall the best I got was 13.00 106 mph.

What were the 0-100 times for the other three?

I've got a DPIC gauge in my XR6T, M6. Best 0-100 I've managed is 5.6s.

Mate, if you enjoy driving, stick with the manual. I'm yet to drive the 6sp auto, but it can't give you the same satisfaction as a manual, I don't care what anyone says. I had a 4sp auto XR6T previously. I'll never buy an auto again now I'm back in a manual.

But if those couple of tenths are important to you down the quarter, go the auto.
